What happened in

Post by M's » Mon Feb 17, 2014 7:52 am

No need in telling the year or day, just a couple of notable events from the month and year you were born in.

1st TV broadcast of "Waltons" on CBS

Fifty-four North Korean members of its Red Cross delegation crossed the border at Panmunjom at 10:00 a.m. and were welcomed by their South Korean counterparts, in the first visit North Korean officials since the end of the Korean War.

The television series M*A*S*H began an eleven season run, eight years longer than the Korean War which provided its setting.

Oakland A's used 30 players in a 15-inning game against the Cubs (MLB record)

Munich Massacre: While the Summer Olympics were in progress, eight members of the Palestinian terrorist group Black September broke into the Olympic Village in Munich, killed two members of Israel's Olympic team, and took nine others hostage.

A quick trip to Wikipedia answers all

December 1989
-The Solar Maximum Mission satellite crashes back to Earth
-The first full-length episode of The Simpsons premieres on Fox
-Operation Just Cause is launched
-The International Trans-Antarctica Expedition reaches the South Pole

I love how PewDiePie's birthday is listed under births in 1989. October 24th.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

My month was a big one for computing - it saw the launch of the Commodore 64, as well as the discovery of first ever computer virus found in the wild (affecting Apple 2Es, and written by a 15 year old). It also featured the birth of Kate Middleton (HRH The Duchess of Cambridge) and the tragic crash of Air Florida flight 90 in to the Potomac, due to icing. Ma Bell reached the settlement that would see it split in to the Baby Bells a couple years later, and record cold temperatures were recorded all across to US.

The last one seems rather appropriate.

CVN 65 USS Enterprise 25 November 1961 - 1 December 2012

Wikipedia's standards sure have fallen. Hard.

There was a crater involved.

Anyway, my birth month, March 1990:

- Mikhail Gorbachev elected President of the Soviet Union
- The International Trans-Antarctic Scientific Expedition completes the first dog sled crossing of Antarctica
- East Germany holds its first Free Election
- Namibia becomes an independent nation after 75 years of South African rule
"So what have you been up to, man? Haven't seen you in so long!"
"Ah, you know how it is. Doin' a lot of side projects, some consulting, maybe a little freelance... Those are words that people say when they haven't actually been doing anything, right?"
