Yeah that's basically the sorriest excuse for an intersection I've ever seen.

The only answer as to why I could ever come up with is how busy are roads get with tractor trailers due to being a centralized hub between 3 major cities... other than that, I couldn't tell you.

As a Pennsylvania I can confirm that Jersey drivers cannot turn left.

I agree but...

They do more than not turn left well. I drive on highways a lot to Annapolis, Md.... man I hate the jersey drivers.

I think it is to keep as much traffic off the main street as possible. Left hand lanes have a way of blocking things up, so this tries to cure the problem, but it is a rather silly road design. And no, there are no "jughandles" in WA.
