In all seriousness though I believe it does alter the climate post-victory;
Whether it's class changes or medics giving more attention to players who were more effective in the previous round, knowing who contributed the most changes how people play in subsequent rounds. Totally in favor of it.
EDIT: In a much less cool way it also massages the egos of newcomers to the server knowing they were recognized for 'top fragging' even though they didn't win. I wouldn't implement it for this reason but it may increase player retention on the servers in a way...
