I had snails for the first time a year or two ago when I went to Vietnam, they're pretty good (or, at least they are when you go to a fancy Vietnamese/French restaurant).

Tried them once, pretty meh. Didn't taste bad, but it seems like the sauce is pretty heavy - almost like it is the main feature and the snail is there for texture.

of course its posh! its french! lol i dont get too excited about it...it's basically just a tray of garlic butter...however that being said...it is always great ordering it for someone who doesnt know what it is...in Paris, friend and I ordered that followed by steak tartar, just told my wife it was "tray of garlic butter followed by spiced ground beef" her reaction when she found out what both ACTUALLY were was priceless

Nice, Keyes :-D The trick is, did she like them?

I was tricked with a similar maneuver in China when I was 17. My father's coworker, who was acting as our guide of sorts, had taken us to a lovely restaurant in Hangzhou. He had figured out already that I was a fairly picky eater, so he told me the delicious looking chunks of teriyaki barbequed meat at the table were beef. I popped a couple in my mouth and they were great. Then he says "Ha ha ha, that's EEL!" and the whole table has a chuckle. I bit one open and looked inside (it definitely was eel), but didn't care by then. That stuff was darn good!

Unfortunately that's what happens with picky eaters! I was brought up on the "No-Thank-You Bite" Policy: Don't think you'll like it? Have a few bites (or half or whatever) and we were square. I've always held that belief - you can always try something, don't have to like it! (Goat Eyeball was one where I had no intention of continuing to eat it.

she was ok with the escargo...spat out the tartar before she finished it...even before i told her

funnily though (when on the topic of eating experiences)...had quite the surreal cultural experience when, in Paris, I was on the Ile de la Cite, across from the Notre Dame, eating at an Algerian restaurant...

I had it many years ago, my recollection was of a lovely garlic pastry with a little bit of shoe leather inside.
