Outside your genre

***BE ADVISED SOME VIDEOS/SONGS CONTAIN EXPLICIT LANGUAGE***

I know we all have a specific taste in music, mine is 60's, 80's rock and country.
But every now and then a tune from outside your normal genre catches your ear.
I must admit I like the song "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Anyone else have a song outside their normal genre they like to listen to?

BTW love the way that video ends

That is quite a confession! Personally, I can't stand the song...
I'll pretty much listen to anything besides pop, country, and most rap.
So, I guess stuff like Linkin Park and Gorillaz are kinda outside my genre (Linkin Park is one of my favorite bands).

Being a hardcore techno/dubstep kind of guy i don't normally listen to indie rock, but that Gotye song is just fun to listen to.

Example of what i normally listen to

I don't actually associate towards any specific genre. I search for "good music." Criteria being a singer, good guitar, drums, piano, violin, other instrumentals. Unfortunately, finding the good lead singer is actually the hard part, which is unfortunate because it rules out a lot of would otherwise be good songs.

A good example is what darklino posted. It doesn't matter who sings it, as long as it is sung well and performed well. Music videos add to the experience in rather odd ways. Namely in that some songs I don't enjoy by themselves, I need the produced and edited fancy video that was made for it, this is the only way I can listen to Lady Gaga for very long. Others, the visual aid just adds to the experience, like Nightwish for example.

Anything by Pink is out of my "normal" genre. But I must admit, I love most of her music. Now that I think about it, I don't know what my genre is? I love music of all types. However, I tend to go song by song, not artist or genre. I listen, I like/dislike, and then try something new again.

I should also note that the lead singer for FUN is good, but the rest of his band are just average at best. Unfortunately. He carries the songs himself, regardless of what's being played.

I will note that Linkin Park makes good music. So many people seem to greatly dislike the way they have evolved over the years or from album to album, and all I have to say is that they are caught up in something that really just can't be repeated. They have a great lead as well as great writing, production, etc.

I find their newest:

To be just as good as their old stuff, that made them into a band people liked

They are completely different styles, yet both good in their own right.

Nightwish for those that haven't heard of them. I'll note that Tarja Turunen is no longer the lead singer, and that her solo productions aren't as good simply because they don't have the same quality of writing behind them.

When it comes to primarily electronically produced music(electronica), it isn't considered good music to me unless there are vocals. Cascada or Basshunter fit this bill. And obviously, it has to have good musical quality. Most electronica or techno or what have you is very repetitive, so I find it to be not very good.

When it comes to country music, it's much harder for me to find music I like, primarily because they are all so similar.

Even though that is my preferred music, I have to agree with you.
In the last 10 yrs or so, ever Dick and Jane thinks they are the greatest thing to C&W since Patsy Cline or Marty Robbins.

If not for the digital editing and auto tuners, there would be a much smaller C&W singing crowd.

Typically, the music I listen to 70's rock, 80's hair metal, 90's grunge, gangster rap from the 90's (yo) and contemporary blues.

Last winter I was driving around and they were playing bluegrass on Univeristy of Hartford radio. It's been Alison Krause and The Grascals 24/7 in the car since. I get strange looks when I pull into the gas station at 1 AM, blasting bluegrass while wearing penny loafers, khakis and a dress shirt.

The looks are even stranger when it's NWA that's pouring out of my car and I'm dressed like a stock broker.

I like a lot of different music, as long as it is quality creative music, but this really tops it off for me, and I am not super into Jazz...these 3 guys just kick ace.

This is what I was looking for, a song that you really like even though it does not follow your normal listening habits.

My genre is "anything good" :D

While I don't have a problem with 80s pop, I don't listen to a lot. I do love this tender Gloria Estefan classic.
