Steam Winter Sale 2011

Post by Masakari » Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:31 am

It begins!

http://store.steampowered.com

Achievements similar to the Summer Sale, except you're winning real games and/or discounts to other games and/or chance for EVERY GAME EVER. I've already won a 25% off Valve game coupon, and 25% off of LIMBO.

Steam itself must be getting hammered right now, I can't get anywhere, let alone my free gift.

Is it really outside of Valve's power to have servers which can handle the loads they take on? This is a genuine, curious question, not a complaint phrased as a question (although this is REALLY annoying).

My inventory page is so crapped up I can't possibly find out what the gift is that I won. It keeps randomly choosing between TF2, Portal 2, and Steam to show my inventories from, with no access to the other two, and they all say "You have 0 items in your inventory" because the servers are too bogged down to actually display them...

Yeah me too, most likely I'm going to find out that my free gift is a piece of coal.

I would expect, like any business, they are trying to meet demand 95% of the time at a reasonable cost.

Likely they have many servers they bring online for extra load that cover special releases with large demand from a subset of steam users who pre-ordered a game. I doubt that they have enough servers to handle the requests from what is essentially the entire steam userbase.

That being said, i'm in the same boat as you. I'm sure it'll mellow down by tomorrow.

I own none of the games for extra achievements anyways and don't plan on buying them even though they usually work out well in the end.

I haven't even launched half of what I bought from the Thanksgiving sale, should my wallet really suffer again?

Funny thing, Orcs Must Die achievement for today, you HAVE to use the arrow trap. You can't just go at it with sword and crossbow. Fortunetly, the arrow trap unlocks after you beat it the first time if it's your first play.

One of the good things (?) about being a Mac owner, I can't buy almost all those games anyhow.

Anywho, Masa... no more games young man! :P

My steam inventories show no items either so I am sure things will fix themselves eventually.

The gift for viewing my inventory was a 25% off valve game coupon from Jan 2 to some other date. I assume this will be the same for everyone.

I got 50% off any Valve game. Not much use though since I already own all the ones I care about. The only ones I don't have are Ricochet and the original versions of DOD and Counter-Strike.
