Unemployed. Need movie suggestions
So I have an overabundance of time and im horrible bored at home. I have gone though and watched nearly every movie known to man and need some new movies to watch.
Please post any good movies that have flown under the radar or just some of your favorite movies. Independant, b-movie, foreign, I dont care.
Bonus points if they are sci fi movies. Please help me retain my sanity!

Pan's Labyrinth, subbed if you can get it. Not Sci-Fi but still awesome. Also it's a dark shade of grey if you're into that sort of thing.

Do you have Netflix? Tons on there that you could stream that are the fly-uner tha radar type.
Moon - this is a sci-fi movie starring Sam Rockwell. Good flick.
Seven Samurai - old Japanese black and white film.. If you are movie buff, this is one of the classics. Was the inspiration for the western Magnificent Seven (also a fav).
Band of Brothers - HBO WW II mini-series about the 101st, 506th Regiment, Easy Company. Directed by Tom Hanks.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand - this was a 13 or 14 episode series that was on Starz network, just came out on video. Basically a mix of the movie 300 (visual style & Gladiator). Is a modern take on the legendary slave/gladiator of Rome. Very bloody, and lots of nudity (don't let the little ones see it.
Book of Eli - this didn't get a ton of press, but it is an excellent movie. Post -apocolyptic future with Denzel Washington.
The Wire - was on HBO for 5 seasons. The best TV show about police and criminals EVER. I would even go as far to say that it is a Top 5 Drama series of all time. It sucks you in. Each season is about 13 to 14 episodes.
A Scanner Darkly - Based on the Phillip K. Dick story. This stars Keanu Reeves and Robert Downy Jr. but uses animation.
Jarhead - movie about marine snipers in the first Iraq war.
THX 1138 - One of George Lucas's first movies. Stars Robert Duval. Interesting Sci-fi movie.
Just a few to get you started....

Nice choices. Seen most cept rome and spartacus. I loved the wire and in fact i love all the movies you mentioned. Seven Samurai is and always will be one of my favorites. Far ahead of its time. I think i will take the plunge and check out rome as a series will definitely keep me occupied more so than a single movie. Good recommendationAgent X wrote:Do you have Netflix? That was an awful movie, it was really aimed at preteens.Gizanked wrote: recently rented MacGruber... and i'll admit. I loved it.
Ink was a good movie and Lost Boys 2 wasnt bad. Book of Eli was pretty decent. Dr. Horrible's Sing along Blog was also amusing.

I like Will Forte, I enjoy SNL humor. So what if they made a 90 minute movie out of a 30 second skit.

Re: Unemployed. Need movie suggestions
-Tommy (the "rock opera" by the Who)
-Mrs. Doubtfire (Robin William's last great role?)
-Metoropolis (the old silent German one, not the anime one...then again, I've never watched the anime one...)
-Double Indemnity (classic film noir...filled with a lot of those fast talking one liners)
-Barry Lyndon (directed by Stanely Kubrick and is quite enjoyable...though, I think I laughed more than I should have)
-Bringin up Baby (a good ol' fashioned comedy)
-Singing in the Rain (the only musical I'll admit to liking...well...the only live-action musical...)
-Cats don't Dance (a really good animated musical about dancing and singing cats. Hilarity ensued)
-Citizen Kane (a classic film, right?)
-Space Jam (because deep down you know you want to see it)
-Troll 2 (the definition of grade B films)
-The Lost Skeleton of Cadavera (the defintion of films purposefully made bad)
-King of Kong (the only documentary I'll recommend to someone)
Also, Will Forte...

Re: Unemployed. Need movie suggestions
Refuel I loved the Seven Samurai and I am glad to see you enjoyed it too.
If you have access to the Criteron Collection try to get more movies by Akira Kurosawa., his work is amazing !
Hmmm, as for movies I would bet you have seen nearly anything I would recommend. How about TV shows/series? I am a huge Top Gear (UK) fan and I would think you would enjoy those. I also started watching the series Burn Notice and would recommend it too.
Dont know how you feel about books but for an out of work person a Library card can give you access to so many great books not to mention DVDs and more. I love reading and tend to read for an hour or 2 every night once I am in bed, I would recommend it.

OMG!!! What Agent X said. "If you squint hard enough, it kind looks likes Keanu Reeves."Agent X wrote:Do you have Netflix? Tons on there that you could stream that are the fly-uner tha radar type.

THX 1138 - One of George Lucas's first movies. Stars Robert Duval. Interesting Sci-fi movie.
Just a few to get you started....
Don't forget these though:
New movies you should see:
Inception(prolly not out on dvd yet, but should still see it)
How to Train Your Dragon (great animated film by Dreamworks)
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (an Epic of Epic... Epicness)
Others you should see(mind you I don't know what you have not seen):
Pi
Donnie Darko
The Illusionist
The Prestige
Total Recall
Equilibrium
Tron
Videodrome
Mad Max 1/2
Chronicles of Riddick
Dawn of the Dead
Sherlock Holmes
I am Legend
Resident Evil(If you like it, go on to watch to rest in the series)
Wallace and Gromit (You know you want to)
The Boondock Saints
The Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day
500 Days of Summer (it might appear as a chick flick type movie, but it is a much different perspective on it)
North by Northwest
Casablanca(because you should watch it again)
Ninja Assassin (probably the bloodiest/goriest movie you will ever see, that isn't a retarded horror type movie, plot really kinda sucks, but its interesting none the less)
Grandma's Boy
The Hurt Locker
3:10 to Yuma
Lucky Number Slevin
Pineapple Express
Office Space
Three Kings
The Kingdom
Clerks, Clerks 2, Mallrats, Dogma
The Counterfeiters(Its a german film, will have english sub titles, but its a great movie)
Apocalypto(The first time and only time I watched this movie, I watched it with no subtitles. Set a long time ago in either the Amazon rainforest or Mexican rainforest, I couldn't quite tell. With no subs, it really makes you look at things a bit differently)
Eater of Potatoes, since 2008.
I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.
