What's your favorite metal song/band?
So I've made a few music thread posts in the past and everyone here(like most people) likes to talk about music. Today I've been ripping CDs to the HDD of my media center PC and I've been listening to a lot of metal while doing so. Like most everyone, I listen to a diverse subset of music genres which continually change based on many variables such as mood or motivation from current activities. Example: I used to love listening to metal before I'd go out skateboarding because it would pump me up enough to throw myself down a set of stairs on a piece of wood with wheels attached. Anyway I'm much more docile in my old age but as I was listening to some old metal favs today I was wondering if any other villuns had any metal favorites they'd like to share? Although my usual "go to" song for skating was Battery by Metallica(great band up until the black album), I really loved this little diddy from Pig Destroyer titled Piss Angel off of their Prowler in the Yard album(the breakdown at 1:30 is epic):
Anyone else here like metal? If so link(or embed if you can) your favorite song(s)!

Lately I cannot get enough of Gojira, a French death metal band. I'm not a big metal person, let alone death metal, but I just love these guys. This song Vacuity always runs through my head when I'm out running, the beat just turns me into a machine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYtShocI ... re=related

I'm quite partial to singers who can actually sing, and all the better if they can harmonize. I think the genre is... power metal? I'm not sure, but I do know my one friend keeps introducing me to bands who can make music I enjoy. Surprisingly, they're considered metal. Right now I've been on a major Avantasia kick.

That sounds more like something from one of Greg Graffin's solo projects, which do have a very different sound, than a full band effort of BR.unsmart wrote:A little off topic but this will make you rethink Bad Religion
Every band has it's stinkers, though

Well as long as we're re-thinking a long time punk band then we should also take note of this punk influenced metal/country singer/songwriter as well:
BTW I saw Hank III with his metal band Assjack a few years ago(they play a two hour set of country that sounds a lot like his Grandfather's music followed by an hour set with his metal band Assjack)and I can definitely say his country stuff was way better than his metal band. But the best part of the show was these guys that opened for them:

When I first got into metal I cared a lot more about the vocals than I do now. As I got more into metal I noticed more the musical composition than the vocalism of a song, but I still can see why vocals and harmony are important to people. Here's a great oldie(I'm making myself feel old by calling this an oldie) that has great vocals:

I know exactly the song you're talking about. The intro to these two songs is uncanny.

I'm not a big metal guy, but I really like Opeth. They're one of the more musical metal acts out there imo (I don't count shredding and double bass drum pedals as especially musical).
Aeon is pretty amusing, too.

Mastodon is by far the best metal band currently playing.

I love going to metal shows, especially the $5 at the door types, but almost never sit and listen to any.
For the rare times I feel like listening to metal: Amon Amarth.
Swedish melodic death metal.
