Cool post…great series (both BoB & TP).

Just an FYI - I guess there is a sale on Band of Brothers right now too because I just picked up the Blu-Ray version for $60 at BestBuy…which is pretty freakin’ cheap as far as I’m concerned.

I’ve seen BoB a few times and I’m finding it hard to compare the two. Band of Brothers follows the same company from training to the German surrender whereas The Pacific is (I believe on purpose) a little all over the place. It shouldn’t be of too big a surprise as the series is based off two books by two veterans who did not serve in the same marine divisions. Sledge is 1st Marines. Leckie is 5th (iirc). I think both have their merits. BoB focuses more on the camaraderie between the soldiers where as TP focuses more on the terrible conditions of the region (heat, volcanic terrain, lack of water) as well as brutality of the Japanese during the time.

For those of you who watched ep7 last night…what did you think of the guy flipping rocks into that dead Japanese soldier’s head? It was, without a second thought, one of the most WTF moments I’ve ever had with watching TV.

Maybe I'm crude, but I was laughing at that part because Sledge is trying to open a can of food while this guy is throwing rocks at the dead Japanese's exposed skull. It kind of set the tone of how war changed Sledge in the matter he went from scared to completely numb.
