You can just load Avanti on TV9 to see the general in person. :D

Yeah, Stevo, Blown and myself gather up the old objects of the palm tree and the general and added them to Avanti when we changed the site in 06. We also had the welcome sign in but removed it.

That map also moved the grenade bag from outside attackers spawn 1 to inside the spawn so people could load up on grens. That wasn't default in the map and something that everyone liked about it.

IIRC it also added a grenade bag to reds last spawn at the top of the hill.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven't had a chance to work on this the last couple of weeks; real life got a little crazy there for a bit.

I've got some PMs' I need to incorporate, plus a bunch of other stuff. I'll be doing more work in the next few weeks.

Awsome history, thanks Spm97.

Probably worthwhile to add the release of the first Team Fortress mod for Quake, and possibly the release of Quake itself to the dates.

Everyone,

I'm bumping this back up to the top. Fall/Winter got a little crazy around here (OK - well - A LOT CRAZY!) and I had to spend some time on some other things.

I'm going to be re-working the history thread over the next few weeks. Be prepared to see some MAJOR updates.

Why does it say "the release of the avantiville map by value."?

Guys and Gals,
I'd like to get around to finishing this history thread. I'm going to work on it some more RSN, and would like input. Some of the input I'd like to look at adding is:

When all the Ville Cups were, and who won?
Same thing for all other competitions - when were they, and who won?
Should we include leadership changes in the guilds, or leave each guild to track that individually ?
Should we try and track the server changes ? The servers have changed a LOT of the years; that might be too much for this thread.
Should we mention things like the ville consul and when it was formed ?

Basically, the top post of this thread SHOULD be the only post people need to read, and they will get the full history of the ville, what they can expect from playing here, and who to talk to if they have more questions.

Thoughts ? Is this a thread I should let stay buried in time ?

Very cool thread, I'm glad you brought it back to the top.

I would say Ville Council information should be included, it seems like a significant event.

I'd think guild leadership changes would be getting too detailed, unless it was a major upheaval.

I could see basic server information being interesting, such as expansions in the number of servers. ex: "Added L4DOD server in Australia"

Keep up the good work!

The Council was created Jan 6 2010, at least that is when the forum was created. There were email discussions and such before that but Jan 6th would be the best date for it.

The Senior Admin group at that time was comprised of John Doe, Mad-Hammer, Squirrel and KRG.

We had brought in a few long time friends of TheVille, [BR] into the guild fold here. It marked the first time a Ville guild was not created completely internally. In the end, it did not work out and from it we learned that an impartial group of administrators would be benefical to TheVille as a whole.

Sgt Stutter asked the Seniors if we would be willing to take on a new role of impartial Council Members overseeing Senior Admins, Guilds and everything in between. We all dropped our official guild affilliations and took up the positions.

Immediately afterwards, the vacated Senior Admin positions were filled by l3eeron, Gizanked, gator and Stevo. The Council still works closely with the Seniors from time to time.

The creation of the Council helped greater distribute the work load all around and it's proven very beneficial. It must be noted that Dog was a part of all of it every step of the way. He's as much a Council member as he is an everything here.
I have a butt and you do too. Let's be friends.
