Great Measurements Debate
Great Measurements Debate
So, Instead of sidetracking other threads, I decided to make a debate thread on the world's measurements (the 2 most commonly used anyway).
Debate rules (they may change):
-Understand this is purely for fun, so keep flames and poster disrespect out of it
-Don't get too hot headed or angry as its just a debate
-????
-Profit

I'm going to start her off.
to quote Clay:
kilometers are too short and celsius isn't exact enough.
also liters are too small.
how is 100 degrees not exact enough?
why does water have to boil at 212 degrees and freeze at 32?
Its kinda like my desk... I have stuff lying around everywhere related to different things, when I should rather stack them according to relevance

My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead, and that's the way I likes it.

Bah, everyone knows that the greatest unit of measurement in the history of human civilization is that imperial unit known as the pint.

Re: Great Measurements Debate
For distances, definitely metric
1 kilometer= 10 hecameters = 100 decameters = 1000 meters = 10000 decimeters = 100000 centimeters.
It is all units of 10. Real easy to figure out.
None of this 12 inches in a foot and 3 feet in a yard and 1760 yards a mile. I mean... tell me, without a calculator how many inches are in 2.5 miles? Ya... thought so..
For temperature actually... Kelvin is where its at . I know that 0 kelvin is absolute 0. But for day to day usage, definitely centigrade. 0C is freezing and 100C is boiling. Nice round numbers.
For liquids, I use liters. Easy to tell and the gas actually looks cheaper at $0.85/Liter.
For weight though and height, I use feet and pounds. I am part of the dark side here because I can visualize a person in feet and pounds rather than meters and kilograms.
The entire scientific community uses the metric system.
