Anyone know of a good animated program?

I dont need anything fancy but I was curious if anyone knew of a good animated program that I could make .gif animations with. I was looking at some of the smileys here and it inspired me to wanna try and make my own :D

Ditto on the Image Ready. It is real simple. I like flash, but I have never made an animated gif from it.
