Funny that you would bring up trailer frame construction, I have been toying with the idea of making an offroad 4X4 trailer vs buying one....
I would go with C Channel at the moment as I dont necessary know any better.

Used.
I have always used C Channel. 2"x 2"x 1/4" 50 mm x 50 mm x 6 mm . Gives me room enough to put my flooring in. And still have a good area to weld axle hangers and rails to.
Treated or rough sawn oak?
