Rick Rolled
Was never a fan of it, but that was pretty funny.
So if you didn't catch the Macys Day parade give it 5 minutes im sure someone out there is hard at work getting it on the internet.

Sadly, it's not cool when it's a marketing stunt... imo, anyways.

I hate to burst your bubble, but 99.9% of rick rolls are marketing stunts. Once it is used to create a buzz about a product it becomes a marketing stunt even if they are not paying you. When you post a link to a video about a new gaming computer and it is actually a rick roll, you have created a buzz about the gaming computer that people ment to look at, and therefor a free marketing stunt for the company.
Examples -
http://www.theville.org/viewtopic.php?t=7595
"New Pyro Achievements"
Created a buzz about TF2 and the new pyro achievements that had not been reveled yet
http://www.theville.org/viewtopic.php?t=6651
"Half Life 3 Interview"
Created a buzz about HL3 with the possibility of hearing some more from the devs.
http://www.theville.org/viewtopic.php?t=9437
"PlayStation 4"
Created a buzz about the possibility of a PS4 coming out already.
To a marketer name placement is the most important thing, so having some one use one of your products or possible products for a rick roll means that you get a free marketing stunt.
And the most important thing about this rick roll.... It was done properly. It was not just a link to the video like so many lazy people do now, but the started the actual promo and then when they had everyone's attention they did the rick roll. I give them credit for rick rolling the whole country

Re: Rick Rolled
I actually like that song, regardless of what anybody thinks!
But seriously, the fact that Rick Astley himself was the one issuing the Rick Roll is hilarious.
Also, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends is teh awesomesauce.

99.9% of the rick rolls are done by people on forums making a joke... not by actual businesses. One of the ones you posted (pyro one) could be considered that way, but the others were just people doing it. The other two aren't a marketing stunt at all...
What I mean by "marketing stunt" is that it's something used by a company to attract attention. Except this is dated... it's like when your parents start using their children's slang in a weak attempt to relate to the younger generation. It's not cool, don't do it! (tip for you parents out there)
The Rick Roll meme has passed... but you're still seeing it pop up, not by your average person like it used to, but by companies now trying to cash in on a fad. Unfortunately they missed the boat and now it's just awkward. Though admittedly the date thing could be perspective... I'm a WoW player and we saw the rise and fall of this fad well over a year ago.
It is cool that it's actually Rick Astley, and I freakin' love the song (shut up, it's catchy!)... it never bothered me when I got Rick Rolled, not sure why it bothered other people... but yea, it just seems awkward that businesses are using Rick Roll as part of their marketing ploys now.
It's like a new McDonalds Ad: "Free POG with every meal! Aren't we cool now? Guys? GUYS!?"

Here ya go Rigges. Read up.

I also do believe it's getting out of hand. When you've seen something so many times and just now, it's catching on with things like this? It gets pretty old...

See Rits' link for what rick rolling is...
WTF are they marketing
.. and they are marketing their image!
Like I said, it's similar to when parents use their children's slang in an effort to relate... it's just awkward. These companies are using something the internet community was into in an effort to say, "Hey guys, check us out. We're rick rolling too, aren't we cool? Hey, since we're so cool, hip, and with it, you should probably come buy our stuff 'cause if you do, you'll be as cool, hip, and with it as we are! Huzzah!"
That's just how it comes across to me, anyways
Btw, I wonder how much they had to pay Rick Astley to do that. Last I heard he wasn't all that impressed with the meme.
