Super Mario RPG, Commander Keen, maybe Wolfenstein, and most recently Deadly Rooms of Death, a game I actually had back in Windows 3.1 days, but the game creator has made newer sequels to it. It's great fun if you like puzzles.

Not as old as many of the games mentioned, but Baldur's Gate is what always comes to mind when asked a similar question.
I was already big on the Forgotten Realms novels and then being able to play in that world just blew my mind.
...and then I find out about Dungeons & Dragons.
I thank Baldur's Gate for a lot ...including the first time I stayed up all night playing video games on a school night

This thread is taking me back. The two games I’ve played more than any other would have to be Final Fantasy 6 (3 originally) and Chrono Trigger. I’ve probably beaten both of them about a dozen times and can’t really get enough.
I also really like King’s Quest 5 and 6.
