well if you do want a police job...why not another service? (again not trying to disuade you...or endorse one service over another)

I'm jealous. I tried to join the army in 1986. I had some vision problems: astigmatism and something to do with depth perception, so I couldn't get in. Congratulations on your adventure!

I have astigmatism! You probably had kenatoconus. I had to get tested for that because my cylinder was higher than 3, but they found out I just have really bad astigmatism and my eye sight will not go bad as I get older. It'll just stay the same.

I have always wanted Army. I don't like the Marines. The Navy is eh. I have thought about the Air Force, and currently right now I am weight standards for the Air Force, but my family (uncles, cousins) have all served in the Army and one currently in the Navy. My cousin has given me the heads up about what the recruiters will tell me, so a lot of the things you guys are telling me, I've also heard from him. He made it to SSG too before going Reserve while going to school and then after his last tour in Iraq/Afghanistan and his contract expired, he left. Of all the branches I have looked at since I was 16... Army has always been the one that has interested me.

Umm those will be Moth balled and decommission by the time you can join the Air Force

But you would be able to still fly one of these probably your kids too by the time you have kids and they grow up.

I'm aware of Coast Guard, but I never liked Coast Guard either. Army, Air Force were always where my interest has lied. I'm aware Coast Guard are police of the seas and other areas. Had a professor talk to me about it. It was ruled out right when he mentioned it.

Army - Reserve, Guard
Marines - Reserve
Navy - Reserve
Air Force - Reserve, Guard
Coast Guard - Reserve

NASA is not part of the military branch since they do not report to DoD. At best it's a government program.

Yeah, the Air Force has hardly even moth balled a fighter for quite a while. They come out with a new one every 10 or so years it seems too. They are onto development of the F-35 now, due to be commissioned in 2014 and 2016, and the F-22 was commissioned in 2005. Since 1976, they've commissioned the F-15, F-16, and F/A-18.

Also, another reason the B-52 with never ever go away! I mean, just look at this, it is flying with no vertical stabilizer!

NOAA is technically another one too, and CG isnt DoD they are DHS, and if you want to do policing, Army, Airforce or CG are where you should look hard...I dont know what he would have said to make you rule out CG but at least Airforce is on your list of maybes.

Again...im not trying to push one way or another...just as long as you are doing what you want...i see too many non-rates come to me complaing they want to get out because they picked a job that was open...and not one they wanted...and in this economy...getting out is NOT what you want to do

Also the B-52 has had its commission extended well into the 2030's, and the B-2 will be around for a while too

Edit: in regards to missing uniformed services i was wrong when i said one...it is CG, NOAA, Merchant Marine, CBP and PHS so 5

WTH????

Umm NOAA WTH is that????

Merchant marine is part of Navy and is mostly Civilian not true military and WTH is CBP and PHS

Now Coast Guard is still Considered Military though even though you say they do not report to DOD.

Also I have heard they are talking about Mothballing the B-2 due to the B-52 and the newer stealth type fighter Bombers b-2 has a low pay load and the new FB and FA jets can carry just as much pay load. pretty much the same reason the B-1 bomber was Moth balled. and All I can say is that is what I heard if there were changes to that train of thought I do not know but the B-52 will be around for a long while long after the b-2 is decommissioned and many other plans after the B-2.
