In case anyone feels like getting up unreasonably early on Monday morning (January 4th), Awesome Games Done Quick (a Charity speedrunning marathon) will be doing a Left4Dead 2 speedrun on Twitch at 4:47 AM Ville time. If They are estimating 1:25:00 to do all the coop missions back to back.

Or you could do like me and watch a recording of it later so as to not have to get up early.

I'll be interested to see these. I hope they're doing 100% runs, and not exploit runs. Doesn't really feel like a speedrun if they're warping through walls and such. Given that our combined Ville records for all speed runs adds up to 3:02:00 (including loading times and such), I'll be eager to see them do it in under half that!

Just watched it. It's only the new L4D2 missions that are included though - none of the original L4D missions (No Mercy etc.).

Also, they don't seem to play by the same rules as us:
  • They start the clock when the first cut scene finishes, not when the first map starts loading.
  • They're playing on Easy, where I think most of our Speedruns are on Normal. Also, then they need someone to die faster, they briefly change the difficulty to Expert to facilitate this.
  • At the end of each campaign, they do a vote to move to the next campain so they don't have to watch the credits.
  • They do clip through walls at some points. In fact, they're running an older version of the game so that it is possible to use some glitches that have since been fixed.
  • At some points, they use the "Take a Break" option to teleport players who are behind forward to the leaders.
Nonetheless, I think it's a pretty impressive run. I won't spoil it by revealing their final time.

You can find the video at http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick/v/33381987. The L4D2 speedrun starts at roughly 18:42:00. They only show the screens of two of the four players.

I watch most of them on youtube afterwards. Watched the mario kart race earlier. I think lots depend on the commentators. Tried to watch some on the first day, and the commentators are super annoying or cringy. the mario kart race had a great commentator.

a couple of interesting "shortcuts" in the 2nd round of The Parish, I guess we could use them to set some new records ;-P

I would love to see how our style of play would work on easy vs normal and if our times would be reduced at all.

Theres a major part of GDQ that I enjoy hat separates my ability to binge them every marathon as opposed to hope of twitch and watch random runs. The commentary has to be great. With GDQ, I'll specifically mention this L4D run, the commentary is often amazing. Speed runners normally keep to themselves and focus on the game, but with GDQ you have players or the couch commentating. So in this L4D run, you explain all the mechanics that help them speed run. I'm up to the Disney block right now. Both Aladdin and Star-wars had nice commentary.

Watching the first of the L4D2 maps, I'm pleased to see that our record here is less than a minute off what they got, despite us not skipping cut-scenes or glitching with an old game version :-D Will have to keep watching the others!
