L4D2 Screenies

Post by TTHREAZ » Sun Nov 28, 2010 12:13 pm

Seeing as the TF2 Screenies thread is one of my favorites to peruse, I thought we should start one for L4D2. I'll add some oldies but goodies later but wanted to share these two.

B and I were messing around the other day and he spotted a Witch in a bush:

Last night we played some Vs on No Mercy and I noticed this common hanging in midair. And, no, he wasn't moving.

I don't often take screenshots in L4D2, most of them are round end score shots, but I have a few.

Words not often seen in L4D2.

Oooh, I remember that one! IIRC, it was a buick that came flying over the house, launched from the street below, that insta-felled all of us at once. Good times!

At any rate, I've learned a couple important lessons playing with the gang...

We've got the high ground, we said.

We've got health kits and enough supplies, we said.

We've got this, we said.

The director can be rather unintelligent at time, spawning both Laser Sights AND Frag Rounds in a Lone Gunman run.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.

Give me a melee weapon every time. I realize melee is suicide in higher levels. This is why I do not play higher levels :D

Melee vs Magnum is always a tough call for me, though in VS and higher difficultis, I will take the magnum more than the melee. Melee's give you excellent crowd control, especially during panic events and boomer attacks, but if you're downed, a magnum gives you the best chance to defend yourself and save your friends who are trying to save you. Magnums also work great when you're out of ammo during some events, such as running to the safe room in Death Toll 4 where they're all coming through the tunnel in a line.

My stats page shows an even split between pistols and melee for damage, but I have more kills with melee than pistols. 4,000 kills are logged for the magnum, while i'm showing 3,000 on the chainsaw and fire axe, 2,000 on the katana, and 1,200 on the machete.

Of course, those don't even come close to the Combat Sniper, 10,000 kills on that making it my most used level 2.

I have 35,455 Magnum kills, versus 21,536 kills for all melee weapons combined.

While the power of a melee weapon against common-lock is undeniable, the ranged capability of a handgun is vitally important, not only for ammo conservation in pre-clearing an area, but also for helping teammates out who get smoked, pounced, or otherwise hit by an SI. When somebody is caught by an SI and you just emptied your primary weapon fighting a horde, the extra several seconds it takes you to run up to them and shove or whack with your melee weapon (or to reload your primary) are deadly. With a sidearm, they would have been free in half a second.

The most damaging thing in any campaign, in my experience, isn't the initial impact of a hit, or a horde of commons, or even the friendly fire - it's a slow reaction time from your teammates when you're in trouble. Melee weapons may be very advantageous for personal use, but sidearms are better for the group. Of course, I rarely play lower than advanced if I can help it - the normal setting is almost funny, and melee or pistol is irrelevant there - you hardly take damage anyway. When on Normal I do often pick up a melee weapon, because hey - it barely makes a difference, and there is something satisfying about the sound of cracking skulls by hand.

--edit--

Just counted up my total kills - I'm up to 174,568. One more game I'll break 175k dead zombies :-P I know what I'm doing late tonight!

Of those, 45,249 are AK, 35,455 magnum - I intend to have that 46% up to 50% by 200k!

15% of all my kills in the time I've played L4D2 are with the Fire Axe.
