also THIS

there may be also ppl that were looking too closely at their stats. And after they realized that they where rested they may got disappointed about it and left.

The server went quiet about a week before the reset.

Wow that all moved kind of fast :) That sucks, no more insurgency... but it totally makes sense.

It was pretty much right in the original post... Christmas games killed it off. I was big into the server before the WoW expansion came out, then I got into that and am still going strong. When it slows down I'll be back to other games, but meh :)

That said, I think a large part of the lack of interest lies in the game itself. It's not finished... it's still very much a beta and there's a significant amount of problems and balance issues. While there have been expressions of dismay about lack of admin presence, honestly, there's only so much people can do. A lot of maps are just designed poorly, and no amount of telling people not to do something will make it not happen.

On the flip side of this, INS has a good development team & community who, with the exception of a few stubborn asshats, are very willing to work towards something more enjoyable. I'd imagine INS as a whole is probably starting to taper off right now, and it's because the current version has worn stale. Folks are tired of the same old issues and the same old imbalances.

Beta 3.0 is coming soonish... when that's released you can probably expect a renewal of people wanting to play the game. I know that I'll be coming back for Beta 3.0 to check out the new changes. Unfortunately, it's all you can expect from a game that has such a long and slow development cycle. It's a solid game, but it's still a recreational development.

I'll admit I got back into tf2 during break, and got 2 new games for Christmas. Couple that with my new 12 hour a day internship at a Prosecutor's office, and I didnt play much on there anymore.

And more importantly, is it worth keeping the server running if no-one populates it?
It wouldn't be the first dead server that was kept around.
My opinion:

2. Some who should have been banned weren't. Certain problem players ran others off.

3. Towards the end there were not enough admins playing INS. When we started that server we had more admins on more often. Believe it or not, I credit mostly this for the popularity of the server.

+1: spawncampers. (which is where point #3 woulda been helpful)

Them's pretty much what kept me from coming back. Didn't care so much about the stats being reset.. was just another chance to claw my way back up the ranks instead of feeding points to everyone.
But oh well.. had my fun with it. Might try it again someday but there's a ton of work that needs doing to the game itself in the meantime.

DoDS is not dead.
It doesn't get played as much as it should, but it's definitely not dead.

Well it has 0 player stats since being reset, so does that mean its had 0 players in 15 days?

No.
Remember it needs six or more players to register stats.

We will get it filled again.
DoDS kept this community going through the period between the decline of DoD1.3 and TF2. Many people still own the game, and many people like myself, thoroughly enjoy a good game of DoDS.

DoDS is ok, but I never did get used to the changes from DoD1.3. The source version just feels a little too arcady. God, I used to play way to much DoD back in the day though. It completely replaced CS for me, and I played a lot of that too :P

Beta 3.1 was still my favourite though...

I got tired of the uneven maps, and I got like 5 games for Xmas...
Fallout 3, L4D, Far Cry2, Spiderman: WoS, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Force unleashed.

I just noticed the server was gone today! :P
