Hammer 3.5 Issue

Post by BlackHawk » Mon Jun 01, 2009 1:51 pm

Well, I doubt anyone can help me, this is more to let you know the "fun" I am having right now.

So with people playing NS again I have decied to work on my map some more. problem is I lost the RMF so I had to decompile it. Anyone here who has ever tried to decompile a map for HL1 knows the fun I am having. Because it makes the brushes based on geometry, Hammer is overloaded with to many objects in the map. As a result anytime I edit one, on in most cases replace one with a proper brush, they do not show up on the grid views. Once I get a good protion of the map fixed, will this problem go away. It is making it very difficult to redo the map?

i'd say you'd probably be better off re-making it from scratch. it will probably take as long to fix all the errors from the decompile.

I am basically doing that. I am using the decompiled one as a outline, then replacing each brush. It is going to take awhile, but I can fix alot of other errors that have been bugging me about the map along the way. I have already finished Marine Start

Ewwwww

good luck dude...

I could even help with some of the tedious brush replacing.

...I decompiled avanti with only 4 or 5 bad brushes. What decompiler did you use?

I used Win2bsp. There were only about 62 or so brush errors. The problem is that it created so many brushes that Hammer was over loaded. I am actually using it to my advantage, as I replace a brush it does not apear on the grid views. Makes it easier to find when I miss one around corners and stuff. I have only got 2 rooms dones so far and I keep having "What was I thinking?" moments when I look at some of the old stuff I did. There is a few spots where I have no clue how I did the brush work and have to redo a small section.
