Left4DoD

Bots have always been an issue for Day of Defeat Source.
You can spawn them but they just stand there and will either run around aimlessly firing their weapon (bot_flipout) or they'll just stand there and do nothing. The fact is that bots have no AI.
VALVe have no plans to make bots for DoDS in the immediate future.

Soooooooo.
From my work on the Skeet plugin for TF2, I figured out how to make bots aim at players.
So then I had a bath moment, and realized I could make bots run where I wanted them to run to.
So I put together a little test plugin where the bots locked onto a player and chased him all over the map.

This then led to a new idea....

I decided to call it LEFT4DOD.....

This is the way it works.
The bots follow waypoints (like most Bot plugins) and will wander around the map capping flags. They are given a spade which they continuously swing (no way around this). However, if a player shoots at them or comes near them (as in Left4Dead), the bots lock in on that player and will hack him to bits. If he has a weapon, one of the bots will pick it up and then start using it (and like the TF2 version, are deadly).
Add Axis Zombie skins, a creepy sky and dimmed light, dod_flash becomes interesting!
The bots will chase you wherever they can.

It's NOTHING like Left4Dead, definitely not as creepy, there are only 15 bots, but it's still fun to play and more of a concept plugin (which I suppose Cube Soccer was at one time). The bots have issues going through doorways, cannot climb ladders and sometimes get stuck trying to get at you. Maps that don't work well, are those with many doorways and buildings such as Avalanche!
But if you still have to cap points and win the game, you still have to get past these guys!

Oh and I forgot to mention....Kill a bot and he comes back a little faster and a little stronger....!

I hope to have a plugin ready soon. Just ironing out some bugs and working on some more waypoints!

Does this mean you're going to have a separate bot package for DoDS?

I was thinking about it.
It's definitely not as refined as the other bot packages out there and I'm concerned about the pressure on the CPU. There are a lot of frequent vector calculations.

The models come from an old Zombie human v human plugin for DoDS by Colster. Since that plugin has long been defunct, I re-used them!

You can also let it download from the fast DL site.

Will have a server running soon!
Maximum number of players is 4 against 20 zombies.

Every so often there will be a 'boss' who has waaay more health (like a Tank)
