Re: Awful Map Night!
The only truly objectively awful map in the game is Junction. All others are a matter of personal opinion.
Unfortunately I don't know that I'll be able to make it, but if I can, I'd like to jump in!

It's an all-stock event though... Plus the saw map is EXCELLENT. You know it to be true!darklin0 wrote:Lolcano, Whale Race, Wacky Races, the one with all the saws. These are a must!
If we ever do a bad custom map event, I will gladly contribute some of my earliest attempts at TF2 mapping. I have some real clunkers around that haven't seen the light of day in years, and I'd love to pull 'em out for all to cringe at!

Just a reminder, this is all stock maps. We could fill a week with atrocious customs, but this is meant to be a nod to the official stinkers

Re: Awful Map Night!
On a pub scene, it's not too great; but it's very popular for comp play from what I understand. It's one of the more play maps for 6v6 I think, and that was part of the reason Valve gave it the green light to official.Alex wrote:gulleywash is the worst map of them all.
This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

Re: Awful Map Night!
Because of its size Gullywash is a really good 6s map. If you think about the design of the points it's kind of a zig-zag pattern and is quite compact which makes for faster and more exciting gameplay; complete with alternate routes to pretty much anywhere from anywhere.
If you play through the commentary mode on one of the maps (I think it was a node on gravel pit) it's stated by one of the devs at Valve that a map has a significant breakdown if the arena fails to contain the number of players on the server. I think Gullywash falls into this category handily once you put it in a traditional pub server; it's just too small to contain 24 players all at once... not all the time but oftentimes.
As a self-professed fan of the 6s format I really enjoy Gullywash... but in 6s format. Same with Badlands and Granary; you can't expect maps to translate with different rulesets and play just as well. Not saying Gully is a bad pub map since I haven't really played it with a full 24-player server but if it's anything like Badlands I can expect it to not be the star of a rotation.

I won't be in town for this one so I'm not gonna be able to make it... otherwise I would. Sounds like a fun one Masa! You crazy guy you!
