Re: Fun/Old Maps Night?
Vikings_final, while a pretty well designed map, tends to turn into a bit of a camp fest. Easy for the enemy team to entrench themselves in your team's capture zone, and since it's a one-way path it's rather difficult to knock out. Especially if your team isn't too coordinated.
Some classic unofficial maps i'd love to play again,
-ctf_Mach4 (I practically grew up on that map before I found my first community, which wasn't theville),
-ctf_convoy (not the best map in the world but I was a huge fan of the Convoy assault map in UT2K4)
-balloon_race_v3_t6 (that's the one I have, an interesting spin on Wacky Races)
-cp_aqua (a 2-map attack/defend style cp map with an emphasis on underwater combat, the map has air bubbles coming out of the floor in the underwater sections to stop people from drowning)
-cp_desertfortress (one of my all-time favorite customs, love it for it's asymetry, something you don't get a lot in cp maps)
-ctf_rugby (football ctf at it's most basic form)
-ctf_bball (can't go wrong with bball)
-ctf_steamroll (ctf mashed up with arena, works pretty well acctually)
-pl_heights_db2 (an alternate form of dustbowl reworked as a payload stage)
-pl_keepitaway_beta (this map is probably dated, the creator of the map worked it as a payload race, before that game mode existed)
That's all I got, i've got a very large mass of maps in my file, a lot of them suck, some I can't even access (I have a number of ctf maps that have incorrect extensions), and some that are either outdated or unfinished.
I would like to try lolcano, that map looks impressive.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

The map has structural issues, yes, but I like its amusing touches like the fish, cannon, and the soundtrack.Zork Nemesis wrote:Vikings_final, while a pretty well designed map, tends to turn into a bit of a camp fest. Usually good until someone Wrangles a sentry. Some classic unofficial maps i'd love to play again,

Map has been crashing servers since maybe around the Mann-conomy update.-ctf_convoy (not the best map in the world but I was a huge fan of the Convoy assault map in UT2K4)
I would prefer v2. v3 tries too hard to be balanced, and as a result seems to end up in both teams deadlocking for a few minutes at each control point. Also, each team having to wait for the other team at the next CP.-balloon_race_v3_t6 (that's the one I have, an interesting spin on Wacky Races)
I liked cp_aqua; other people didn't. Some criticism of CP 2/2 and how it can quickly become spam city.-cp_aqua (a 2-map attack/defend style cp map with an emphasis on underwater combat, the map has air bubbles coming out of the floor in the underwater sections to stop people from drowning)
Desertfortress we pull up on TV2 every so often.
Ooh, I haven't done that one in a long time either.-ctf_rugby (football ctf at it's most basic form)
Oh, and we also have Rock on TV2, for some TFC-style shenanigans.

I played a ton of Convoy in UT2K4 and ran a Convoy loop server for a year or so. Good times.-ctf_convoy (not the best map in the world but I was a huge fan of the Convoy assault map in UT2K4)

Really think we should give cp_gullywash a try, as well as cp_snakewater_b9.

Any plans for a night yet, or is it still in planning stages?

It seems to be sleeping. At this point I'd settle for just getting a couple of maps added.

I don't know if anyone but those who played beta, or bought TF2 on release will remember cp_wolf, but as a warpath enthusiast I fondly reflect on it.

Wow, Wolf was probably one of the first five custom maps that I ever played.

Re: Fun/Old Maps Night?
I'm out for a week vacation starting soon, but when I get back we can schedule something. It's easy enough to choose from the maps since pretty much everything is already on TV2.

...can not believe happycow hasn't been mentioned.
and there was another map I think it was called caves or something that were "payload" maps before the release of goldrush...
I'm sure they're broken now.
