Good custom maps that seem to have disappeared from TV4
I've noticed that some really good custom maps never seem to come up for voting on TV4. Anyone know why?
Some examples:
cp_engineering
ctf_mach4
ctf_hallofdeath
cp_lazytown
Also, it sure would be nice if ctf_steamroll were added as a custom map. It's basically a sudden-death style version of ctf_hallofdeath.
Gameplay of stf_steamroll: 2 very small bases facing each other. Teams have 90 seconds to capture the enemy Intelligence. If a player dies he is sent to his teams spectator room where he must wait until the next round. The first team to capture the intelligence wins the round. The entire losing team is then steamrolled by a train as punishment. The first team the capture the intell 10 times, wins. Map ends.

The idea was to trim the map rotation down to ten or less maps.
The goal of each server is to stay populated.
With that goal in mind it was suggested that perhaps the maps rotation should be trimmed to 8 or 10 maps because one of the biggest complaints that I heard while playing was that some maps never seem to come up or that a person didn't know map xyz. With a rotation of 20 or 30 maps it was impossible to learn the ins and outs of maps and pretty much impossible to see the same maps twice in a night so people could learn them and become familiar with them. More then that, sometimes the choices given just plain stunk as not all maps up for vote were good sometimes.
I think in an effort to get new players onto the custom server maps that were done in mainly tf2/valve style were considered. Basically anything that could be done to attract non regular customs players to the server was what they were aiming for.
If anyone wants to see certain maps I would urge them to lead feedback for SilverOne. If anyone thinks some maps should be removed from the rotation, leave feedback for Silver, and if anyone just hates the current set up, please suggest things to improve it for Silver. I've found he is more then willing to listen and consider all things. Obviously though it is ultimately up to him I've been asking for a rtv that requires 90% of the people on to say yes before initiating a vote but...

BTW just my opinion on those maps, I never played CP_Engineering so I have no comment on that but hallofdeath was fun for ten minutes everytime it came up, the problem is that the map lasts for 30
Lazytown was fun/good right up until you had to cap the last point and it was sniper city and pretty much impossible unless you stacked teams. Didn't seem like a well balanced map.
Mach4 I was never a fan of but I know others enjoy it alot.

Hallofspam is not what I would consider a good custom.

I think Castle should be taken off the server because of how ungodly terrible it is; Cave's become way, way too easy and boring since it gained two levels; and Fastlane and Turbine aren't really "custom" maps anymore.
Personally, I'd like to see the return of Happy Cow and Aqua. And as for Steamroll, I freaking loved that map back in TFC when it was Hwguyz. Put it in, you guys!

Steveio you left out CP_Bloodstained and PL_DBheights
Just my opinion on the current lineup, maybe others will share their opinions as well...
pl_DBheights: I find this map fun and I think it helps keep newer people on the server because it is based on a stock map they are fmailiar with.
cp_bloodstained: It may not be the most balanced of maps but I always have fun on it. It's usually a huge bloodbath and I'd like to see it stay.
cp_steel_b4: It's a fun map with a full server and I hope it stays. Currently it is one of the maps that is set as a start up map i.e. it rotates in when the server is empty. I'm not sure this map can fill the server so much as it may be able to keep it filled. I think it should stay but needs to be taken out of the startup rotation.
cp_castle4: Hate this map. Always have. It always seems to get voted in (sometimes getting 10 votes) and then inevitably the server dies... Where do all the people who vote for this map go?? I'd love for this map to be replaced
cp_dogblu_b3: Close quarters deathfest. I personally always enjoy this map when I play it. I'd like to see it stay but not an absolute must have.
cp_toy_fort: I wouldn't mind this being swapped out but it holds the server and can also start the server so I probably would nto get rid of it. It also is pretty balanced and leads to intense matches most of the time
cp_broma: Keep it. A great custom that isn't played enough.
cp_fastlane: I'm not a real fan of this map, it feels like an oversized badlands. I've only played it 3 times or so, so I am no expert on it.
cp_corporation_b3: Love this map. Again, one of my favorite customs.
cp_roswell: I'm a fan of this map, but some people are not. I think it is one of the better customs so imo other maps should be considere for removal before this one.
ctf_turbine: Truly was not a fan before, but I like it more now.
pl_cave_a5: I think the three stages adds to the gameplay and people just haven't played it enough. I've seen teams stopped on all three stages, and not stopped because of stacked teams.
pl_dynamite2: Sadly, I think this needs to be replaced. Despite the author updating it to make the last point easier to cap, the other points may as well not exist since they are so easy to cap. I rarely see this one voted in at all.
I check for new map releases often but haven't really seen anything interesting enough to suggest it be added.

The wintery one you were referring was ctf_snofort. And as much as I love sniping on it, Floodzone was just way too unbalanced class wise for me to enjoy it. As for other CTF maps, the ones I'd want back into the server would probably be Mach4, Avanti, Quarry, and Casbah.

Only good one on your list is mach4 at least out of the few ones the OP mentioned The lineup has improved on that server if you ask me though.

I quite miss Mach4. Seriously, why was it removed? I always thought it held the server full.
Also, imho, because Fastlane and Turbine are now on every single machine that runs TF2 (since Valve sorta endorsed them) they should be on regular rotation.
But then again, it's been ages since I've seen Turbine on a Ville server (pre update) and I've never seen Fastlane in action, so I don't know how well they hold players...
