It's just a game

And I think a lot of people forget that.

Seems the more I play the more I see the classic online game personalities. The one who takes the game too seriously. The name-caller. The complainer. The pushy leader. The point whore. To those people do I direct this post. I need you all to remember one key element of Team Fortress 2 and any other online game:
IT'S JUST A GAME. IT'S ALL FOR FUN.
Dear Guy Who Takes The Game Too Seriously:
Lighten up. We're all here to have fun. Are you going to tell me you derived no pleasure from those 15 minutes of Dustbowl or Avanti simply because you lost in the end? The fun isn't in winning, it's in playing. Is it more fun to win? Hell yes, it's more fun to win. It's just not a prerequisite to fun. So you lost. So you've got 3 Snipers and no Engies. So your team won't stand on the point while it's being capped. It's frustrating, but so what? In 30 seconds, you and everyone else on your team have a fresh start to try again.
Dear Name-Caller:
I don't get you. How does insulting everyone on your team who doesn't play with absolute precision help anything? For that matter, the other team, too. So you're a better Sniper than the other teams. Shooting them repeatedly seems sufficient enough to drive that point home without rubbing it in his face. So your team did bad. Press Z then 4 to jeer them a couple times. It makes your point without suggesting they perform indecent acts on themselves or their mother. It's not helpful and makes everyone think you're a douche.
Dear Complainer
Pop quiz: who do you think cares if you got hit by a crit rocket? Give up? The answer is NOBODY! It happens. Get over it. You spawn again in a second. You hate 2Fort? No kidding, you've said it 4 times since you got here 5 minutes ago. Hey! Look what I found!!

Look at all those Dustbowl servers! Go to one of those and leave us in peace. The setup time is too long, the Soldier is overpowered, Sentries are too tough to destroy, blah blah blah. Again, I would refer you to another server. No that they won't have those problems there, but we're all tired of hearing from you. Either play the game through the good and the bad...or don't.
Dear Pushy Leader
Maybe I don't WANT to build my sentry there. Maybe I don't WANT to be a Medic. Maybe I have my own style of playing that doesn't fit with yours, but gets the job done for me and the team. A leader is a good thing to have, to direct the team here and there to lead us to victory. What we don't need is a leader who barks orders to all the players around him, demands that people change classes, and gets furious if nobody listens to his "authority". Work with your team to win, not tell them what they should be doing.
Dear Point Whore
You lost 25 points because a noob hit you with a stray pipe. Excuse me while I cry you a river. ... There, all done. So what? Do you honestly play for no other reason than to rack up points and declare how l33t you are? One wonders how you find enjoyment in a server that does not track stats. If you're that concerned about points, then be more vigilant and try not to DIE. I should note for those who take this to the extreme, that this does not mean to stand back as far as one possibly can and do nothing for the team for fear of lost points. If you lose points and drop a few ranks, it's ok. I guarantee they won't mention it on CNN.
So, that was my rant. I'm just trying to illustrate here that TF2, as with any other game is simply that, a game. Full of people just like you who are all there to have fun. Try not to be "that guy" and ruin the game for everyone in it, yourself included.
