There has been some discussion in Discord about bringing back TV7, the rotation TF2 server.

Plinko suggested we move here for serious discussion.

We've got the money, but there are some big questions we need to answer before spending it:

1. How many of y'all would be interested in spending time on the server?
2. Do we have enough admins around to keep things running smoothly without compromising The Ville values?
3. Can I get SourceBans updated and remember how to link the server to it?
4. What is the current state of plugins and does anybody remember what all we used to have running?

Let me know what y'all think.

I'm around and would enjoy a round a or two. As far as plugins I wouldn't have a clue.

It would be fun to have such a thing for occasional nights with the purple gang

I recall that when TF2 really faded for us, it was because Valve had made it so community servers that had settings like ours would no longer be listed without specific effort by the player looking, because they wanted to funnel everybody to their standardized system of nonsense. I'm not sure if we would get much in the way of outside traffic without compromising, but it's definitely worth a look.

Count me in for TF2. I've been playing it about an hour+ nightly.

I would absolutely be around semi-frequently, though I am worried about not being able to get enough people into the server regularly.
I can't offer anything as far as plugins go, I don't know anything about them.

With the recent updates and ban waves of bots and cheaters, now might not be the time to roll out a community server because casual is suddenly way more playable, I would give it several weeks for the novelty to wear off. At some point some level of cheaters and bots will leak back in and it will be a good time to launch a community server.

Would love to see one of the servers come back. My concerns are the same as Sparkys. Would there be enough support to moderate the server to maintain TV's principles? Either way, I think we should try!

To perhaps address Sparky & BigBiker's concerns, what if the revival was billed as a one month (or minimum rental period) event? To be extended if enough players want to. Perhaps the server would only be guaranteed to be moderated during certain hours?

I will suggest a mass messaging to all Villuns regarding the "Return of TF2".

I'd play sometimes, but I wouldn't be playing daily.

I think it might also be worth considering running TF2 Classic, which is a SourceMod that aims to run TF2 as it was in 2008/2009, with a few extra goodies like VIP Escort mode and 4 team made.

It's been a while since I played it, but as of when I last played it there was a decent community and no automatic matchmaking, so community servers might do better there than in standard TF2.

Of course, it would still only work if we could seed and keep the server populated, and honestly, while I would likely play sometimes, I don't see myself likely doing that the way I did before in TF2.

I haven't played in a long time, but it could be fun to dust off the old flame-thrower.
