The WAR Update

I was reminiscing about the early days of TF2 earlier today, and I had a really interesting thought. What if, way back when, the Demoman had won the WAR update instead of the Soldier? He would have won the gunboats instead (or would it have been something else entirely?). The metagame would be massively different.

Thoughts? Any other interesting changes we've seen that have had a huge impact on the metagame that would be really interesting if they had not happened, or happened differently?

Imagine if the super Detonator jump from the beta made it in.

How about the Repair Node? That would really mess the game up. Imagine combining that with the Wrangler? You'd have an indestructible sentry.

the detonator is my favorite part with pyro, it still makes for some cool jumps. i love creating new angles for the pyro to attack with....

I remember when I first got into TF2 during the Pyro Update free weekend. I was so bad at the game then. Those tutorial videos on YouTube really helped a ton in getting better at TF2. I almost forgot the Backburner even gave you the extra health back then. And I'm not sure if the Demoman would've gotten the Gunboats; he might've gotten something different instead. Then again, I don't know if Valve would just scrap a weapon simply on the basis of the Demoman not winning.

P.S. I remember when the Gunboats were originally meant as a practice item and not a viable one in-game.

Cow-Mangler 5000 pre-nerf....were better off without it, but that was a fun update :)
