Beggar's Bazooka - OP? or OPest?

Post by cam » Thu Jun 06, 2013 12:26 pm

I mean look at that. LOOK AT IT. It's essentially a oneshot in a can.

Also I may or may not be insanely jealous of people who can rocket around like that with this thing.

It requires practice and adjustment. If it's not loaded it will lose against any other rocket launcher and you can't keep it loaded without running the risk of killing yourself (unless you're out of ammo). Ammo conservation is key since you also can't use dispensers and must know where to find ammo crates and when to loot the dead for more rockets. It certainly seems cheap to get hit with a barrage of three rockets in short succession but the weapon does have plenty of downsides.

On overload jumping, that requires the Gunboats, if you don't have them on you're going to fall to your death after about two jumps and it's possible to get enough speed that if you fire forward, you can beat your rockets to their destination and get hit by them. Overload flying is also a huge waste of rockets, one for every jump plus three more when you eventually drop the payload and you only get twenty to start. Personally I think it's fine, since it requires a different play mentality to use the Beggars and to pull off stuff like the video it does require some skill and know-how.

The thing that I really really don't like about it is that in the hands of a skilled soldier it essentially forces a pop or a drop on a medic. You can't surf away fast or far enough and doesn't give enough time for allies to react and kill/push the soldier away.

There's a reason UGC banned it.

Its the same as crit weapons like the axtinguisher. There is zero time to react against it in a lot of situations which makes it a gigantic boulder vs your scissors instead of a regular rock. Like all weapons that insta-kill most classes it can feel pretty overpowered a lot of the time. Crazy fun in MvM though!

UGC bans anything that isn't Escape Plan or Ubersaw.

Nah, you're probably thinking of ETF2L (which actually allows the pain train and gunboats now too!).

The UGC whitelist is actually pretty short. The only banned weapons are the Bazaar Bargain, the Pomson, the Phlogistinator, the Beggar's Bazooka, and the Red-Tape Recorder. They also banned the hats that give the sniper and spy set bonuses, as well as the high-five taunt, bombinomicon, and the Jingle boots/belts.

Why ban the Bombinomicon? The only thing I can see it actually having an effect with is the Your Eternal Reward and Spycicle, since you still explode after the supposed silent death.

Yeah, but axtinguisher requires a weapon switch, so a little bit different.

This and, you know, a pyro isn't usually diving from the sky half way across the map AND has to light you on fire first giving you plenty of time to react if you are paying attention.

iirc you're pretty close. its because it causes some FPS loss for some people and because of quirks with disguised spies and dead ringers. something about not playing the sound of the bombinomicon when dead ringing and disguised as a player wearing one.

Surf dat, don't be droppin. Poppin'. Domer and mummy so pro. Does Domer still have a pro-gamer resume on his profile?

Also, I'm running a pair a kritzing Beggar's Bazooka Soldiers in Ville Cup now that I've seen this. Victory is assured.
