He's doing an AMA on reddit right now. He seems to be a fairly bright guy. I'm surprised they hired him though after the whole Idler and Wrench fiasco.

I think the rest of us were forgiven when they gave out free halos to all of the idlers.
He seems useful enough/fan-loyal to Valve that it makes at least some sense for them to pick him up. And, well, this also limits his ability to screw with them from the outside...

Employers like credit card companies, banks and the FBI have ex criminals on their payrolls. Who better to out smart a criminal, than a criminal? Not saying this guy is a criminal but he's certainly a prolific "cheater" of their systems.
He's clearly an intelligent individual and some of the stuff he has done turned out very positive for the TF2 community.

I like this. The thread was also entertaining.

Pretty much the two things I would have postedBETTEH CROCKHURR wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Abagnale
He's too smart for Valve to thwart, seems intensely interested in working on stuff for their products, and has a track record of making popular programs and utilities for them, so he's a fairly logical hire.

I think it was a good idea for valve. sure he may have cheated but to be able to pull of what he has and contribute like he has you have to be a smart person. I think he will make a good addition.

I'm not sure about the whole Wrench fiasco, but if you ever listened or read any of the interviews with DF (i'm thinking of the Kritzkast inteview), the idling program wasn't meant to cheat the system, he made it more as an experiment that became popular for the wrong reason. When he had his conversation with Robin about it (Robin told DF that they would be deleting the items of the idlers before they acctually did), he took his idle servers down almost immedietly and removed the link to his idle program.
Outside of the idler and the wrench, like I mentioned in the shoutbox, he's done some great stuff for the TF2 community as a whole. The original backpack examiner, as well as a lot of work at Source OP and SourceMod plugins. I think he'll make a great addition to the TF2 team and I wish him the best of luck.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.

The Golden Wrench thing is tough to hold against him. If any of you guys would have known when, down to the second, you needed to craft to get your hands on the rarest item in the game, you'd do it too. I know I would have

I thought he created a program to craft a ton of stuff in a short time at the moment it would drop so he would have a very high chance of getting it and that was the reason for the removal and ban, not because he received leaked information from Valve employees and used it. I can't remember where I heard that, so if it's not true I agree with you, Carpe.

He did use a script, which he wrote, to craft at the exact second the window opened. I remember most of the wrench thing, the outcry on the Steam fourms when he got a wrench was astounding.Plinko wrote:I thought he created a program to craft a ton of stuff in a short time at the moment it would drop so he would have a very high chance of getting it and that was the reason for the removal and ban, not because he received leaked information from Valve employees and used it.
