[Poll] Hydro
A simple poll to satisfy my curiosity.
I personally love it. I feel like going on a campaign to reinstate it's validity.
If I got to have one indulgence, I would put hydro on TV7!
Explanations are most appreciated.

Re: [Poll] Hydro
While I love most official maps (Junction can kiss my...), Hydro is no exception, but I think if you look at pub attitudes and such, Hydro is notorious for either straight-up steamrolls or epic stalemates. Just my opinion, though I voted yes.
This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.
Re: [Poll] Hydro
i almost feel like hydro needs a css second sunday sort of approach to it. While i think the map is fun, it is a little too rough on most pubs to throw it in the rotation. So perhaps say once in a while we plan a time to hop on TV1 or 7 and play a round or two of hydro

I completely understand the the whole dynamics of the general attitude towards hydro being in a rotation.

Re: [Poll] Hydro
What little I've actually gotten to experience of Hydro was really fun, so I think we should give it a chance. It's an astounding map art-wise, and gameplay's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be IMO. There are far worse maps out there, even among the official ones. All it takes to have fun with Hydro is the right group of people.
Therefore, I voted Yes.

Re: [Poll] Hydro
not to throw off B's poll, but i also wonder how many warpath regs like hyrdo. it has the same sort of choke-pointy feel, which is part of why i like both maps.

Re: [Poll] Hydro
This reminds me of Warpath.... the only difference is that there are about 6 different maps and they are all shorter in physical length than warpath. So its quicker to get back to everything and quicker to lose everything.Zork Nemesis wrote:Hydro is notorious for either straight-up steamrolls or epic stalemates. Re: [Poll] Hydro
I fall in with the "too stalemate-y" crowd, and I play my fair share of warpath. I think half the problem is that players tend to be too defensive because they see they have to defend one point, never mind the two behind them at the start of the map. It is, in essence, a rather unpredictable 5-point CP map, but a front line is very difficult to have.
Along the same vein, could we possibly have this kind of vote about Badlands? Pretty pretty please puppy dog face?

but information goes stale because people change their minds over time, so there might 6 or 7 more before TF2 dies. Just warning you.

Re: [Poll] Hydro
I love Hydro more than any other TF2 map - even Dustbowl.
I think it is very well designed, and very cleverly laid out. There are constant variations in the map depending on who has won what, and this keeps it lively, as you constantly find yourself remembering "Oh yeah... THIS path!" It achieves extremely solid balance (hence all the stalemates) without being a symetrical yawn-fest like most other CP maps. Personally, I think it is the most impressively designed map I've ever seen. Nothing else maintains such perfect balance across so many different pathings, in so many different situations, and with so many different options. Even the chokepoints have multiple levels in many cases. The pinacle of the map-making art.
I would play the map on a 24/7 server happily, if the server would fill.
