What do you think of it?
I want to know what you all think of TF2 as it is right now. Is it better than ever, completely broken by all the updates, or all just about the hats and trading. Please discuss and vote in the poll.
Re: What do you think of it?
Valve generally fixes things before they break too badly, with few notable exceptions *cough* sandman release *cough*. If anything, I'd like to see an item set for the engy.

The core mechanics are still there despite the gazillion weapons. Idling/Crafting/Trading seems to have calmed down.

Re: What do you think of it?
I still like it just fine, even though I kind of fall in and out with it - I have long periods where I don't play at all, and times where I play a lot. The only thing about it that I truly can't stand is the whiny community it's built up. The Ville remains the only place I've found that isn't 100% dedicated to moaning about every little change.
The sad and ironic thing about this is that I gave up mapping for the game because TF2Maps.net (where ~99% of the officialized community maps have come from) is so bad about this. By the time I finally gave up trying to partake in the discussion it wasn't possible to say anything positive non-negative about the game without receiving an inflammatory response. :\

Re: What do you think of it?
I do like most of the update weapons, not a big fan of the first 4 item sets though (spy, sniper, scout, pyro).
There's definitely some stuff I can hardly play without (sandvich, GRU, D-hit), and some things I wish were never included in the game (wrangler, dead ringer)

Re: What do you think of it?
I think it's better than when it was released. The core game has been updated so much,
and the new weapons that have been released over the years aren't bad either.
People just seem to get upset over something that doesn't affect gameplay. (Hats, store, etc.)

Re: What do you think of it?
With TF2, there never really was a "before". Before would have been TFC. TF2 has been an ever evolving creature since it's release. I'm sure everyone has their favorite "update" and wished it had stopped after a certain one.
I just hop on to kill stuff and wear hats and such. I'm never too concerned with the subtle nuances and intricacies of it all. I don't care how balanced it is, I will still mostly suck.

Having said that, I voted "broken game" because some of the updates have seemed to significantly degrade the performance on my admittedly old computer.
"After completing a trek of Kilimanjaro in 2009, Ronan Keating was asked by an interviewer which celebrity he would most like to throw off a mountain. Keating named Yorke, and referred to him as a "muppet," stating that Yorke was once rude to him." - from Wikipedia
Re: What do you think of it?
As I said, the balancing is usually a corrected problem (except for the reward set, which to this day, is still the most annoying and powerful set in the game). I think before the updates, some of the classes had serious survivability and balance issues (especially heavies) and they came up with fairly creative ways to offset those issues.
Most multiplayer shooters don't have the elements this game does and don't evolve, which can be a rough pill to swallow (especially for someone who cut his teeth on doom, quake, and unreal multiplayer) if things keep changing and getting wacky. I can appreciate that while TF2 is pretty lighthearted in its design, it can still be a fun and competitive game.
That being said, I still want some grenades. I miss conc jumping, the spy's poo gas grenades, and mirvs...sweet sweet mirvs.

Re: What do you think of it?
Stevo's chart is pretty near it, for me. I was ok with the individual class updates, and would even say the game was improving through that time period (Sandman excluded). When they got to hats it definitely started swinging towards lame, but the promotional tie-in items were the last straw. Every time I see a demoman wearing a Burger King crown and Venitian blind sunglasses, while swinging a samurai sword and wearing a targe, I die a little inside.Stevo wrote:

Re: What do you think of it?
I'm not a fan of all the update items but most don't bother me.
I'd also like to be able to turn off seeing hats and misc items if/when I want - I'm not sure why they haven't given this to us yet.
The game is still a fantastic game and a better play than 99% of FPS ever made.

Buncha negative Nancies!
I voted better now.
I like all the new maps, weapons, hats, environmentals, themes, comics, store and everything else under-the-hood they keep updating.
I think it's fun to be a part of the (r)evolution.
PS - Nice to meet you Peahats. Great poll!

I would love to be able to turn off those shades, ye gods they're ugly.Plinko wrote:I'm not a fan of all the update items but most don't bother me.

Also, did anyone else notice the paint styles for the scotsman's stovepipe?
Tasteful and Refined (colors the band only, the new style)
Garish and Overbearing (colors entire hat, the old style)
