Your Preference on TF2 Spawn Times
I was curious to find out everyone's opinions on spawn times in TF2. So here is a poll.
These are just generalizations. Each map is different and obviously needs different settings.
"Fast" means:
CP/CTF: ~12s max
A/D Defense: ~14s max
A/D Offense: ~6s max
"Instant" in this case means just enough to show the freeze cam.

Yeah most of the A/D maps are between 4 and 6 for offense it seems. The number I chose is just a general average of the max time waited. It's hard to define since every map is different. Maybe someone can edit the poll to make it say 4-14.

Fast spawns are bad, they glom up maps at chokepoints and cause people to prefer spam to coordinated teamplay. Standard spawns require you to value your life and also the lives of your teammates (especially medics).
Most importantly, they give you a big reward for successful teamwork - precious time to complete objectives while the enemy waits to respawn instead of facing a mass of enemies 5 seconds after you clear a point.
There's also the point that maps are designed with specific respawns for each team based on objectives. Part of balancing a map is setting that timing - fast respawns change the work the mapper did.
People want themselves to spawn quickly because they're impatient, but TF2 itself is a much better game when everyone spawns in normal time.

meh, I prefer fast respawns because it makes people act more brave (or foolhardy, one can look like the other). I usually try to bodyblock ubers and such, as well as kamikaze to save my team mates, but I would never do that if I knew i had to wait twice as long to respawn. Longer spawn timers make people act much more conservatively, and there for people are less willing to stick their neck out for you if you need it

Not really, but I've heard complaints about stock respawn times before, and it's from people that don't know that they should use that time efficiently...by watching your teammates back.
In all honesty to the question at hand, I do have no preference.[/quote]
can people hear you when you are dead, and alltalk isn't on?
