sv_allow_wait_command

Post by Jesus_Faction » Sat May 23, 2009 3:40 pm

So the new update apparently fixed this command. I'm just curious as to why the ville servers have it set to 0 as opposed to the default of 1.

It's set to 0 for now until we see how many Villuns are opposed to it.

I don't know a lot of .scripts. The only example I can think of is an auto-pistol .script that allows you to shoot as fast as possible by just holding the mouse button down.

Do you use the wait command for anything?

it's used for auto rocket jumping, etc

you hit the button and this chain happen

fire, wait, +crouch, reload, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, -crouch

would be a rocket jump/reload in mid air

But people have figured out how to use it to jumble their hit box, making it hard to hit them.

I have the autopistol .script and i dont really think its much of an advantage since the shots still seem to spread pretty widely. I'm just lazy and prefer to limit my clicking.

The problem I have now is that servers with sv_allow_wait_command = 0 cause clients to crash and lock up when using those .scripts now.

Oh thats sad to see that we disabled it, but i totally understand it.

I once wrote a burst .script for taking screen shots in burst mode.

I used it to take screen shots for the banner rotation.

While there may be some potentially benign .scripts that this would allow, I would be against anything that allowed someone to do with lines of downloadable or tradeable code what it took others time to master doing it the normal way.

The point I am trying to get across right now is that currently, anyone using the wait command in a .script will have tf2 crash and/or lock up when they play in a server with sv_allow_wait_command = 0

Scripts are not hacks and have been part of the game from day 1. They do allow for some form of automation and they are useful for people like spies or engies where there are loads of commands and options.

However, having said that, this cvar simply disables the wait command....not the .scripts. If your .script is benign and doesn't involve the use of the wait command, it will still work.

As for crashing clients...we are aware of the issue, JF and hopefully, VALVe will have a fix soon.

Is there any chance the wait command will be enabled again at some point?
