Blog Update/Sniper Unlocks

I got the tribal shield thing, what I consider to be the worst weapon ever made for TF2, and figured "What they hey? I'll give it a shot." So I walk out to the battlements, scope up to start shooting some stuff ... and get my head blown off by a Spy with the Ambassador. Couldn't defend myself though, because I had no SMG to shoot back with. Hurray for update \o/

At least it wasn't a total waste, you discovered you didn't like it. Which is better than never knowing at all.
It's obvious the Razorback is not going to suit a ton of situations, but it actually did save me a couple of times last night. I didn't even wear it for the purpose of hoping it would do something, I wore it like it was a hat or something (I wanted to look pretty!).
WE HAD THREE OTHER SNIPERS. I WAS THE CHIEF SNIPER IN OUR TRIBE.
The Razorback is something that would work far better if you were in front of a sentry or surrounded by your team, who can shoot for you.
You can not like the weapons and feel disappointed, but complaining about it every chance you get will do nothing but make you hate the weapons even more.
WAIT A SECOND HOW OFTEN DO YOU EVEN PLAY SNIPER FFFFFFFF.

You got me a couple of times with arrows. Did either of them stick me to a wall?
I think I only noticed one arrow that stuck a Medic to the wall.
A bunch probably did stick people to the wall, I just didn't notice due to my intense level of suckage blocking my computer screen.
I got the Razorback and Huntsman's Bow without doing anything last night.
Nacho helped us work out what was happening.
VALVe has apparently added new technology called Sense-o-Whine®. If you whine about not getting the new weapons, then it takes longer to get them.
We also noticed this happening to Guardian too.
So my only advice is to join a server, and do nothing.
Maybe taunt a little.
Perhaps jump up and down on the spot.
But just don't mention that you have no weapons.....

Hey when every single one of your friends is getting all the weapons that YOU wanted and you get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (not even old weapons) AND people are TAUNTING you about it. You'd be whining too!!!!!!!!!!!!111
It also doesn't help that I got sick last night and that I've caught the flu now.

I already knew I disliked the Sniper update, but I figured I would be a sport and try the only item I got so far. I honestly cannot understand how or why the Razorback got the greenlight in the first place - I can only assume there is some sinister purpose still lurking in the shadows we don't yet know about. But honestly, I don't like any of the Sniper unlocks - errr, they're not really unlocks, so ... new stuff?
As for complaining, I started writing two rants recently when they updated the Sniper info, but decided against posting them specifically BECAUSE I figured people didn't want to hear complaints. I don't complain (at least in my opinion) unnecessarily. And, I doubt it's possible I could hate the weapons any more than I already do.
I shared the story because other people were sharing their stories about items they got randomly last night; Dog's practice of Observing apparently paid off since he got stuff without doing anything. I legitimately thought it was a humorous story that I thought people would find entertaining. It apparently came off as snobby or something, as TheCarpe seemingly was disgusted by it. So, to show that the Razorback has a use, I will share another story about last night.
As a spy on Turbine, I was sneaking around of the central containers, coming up behind a medic I was going to backstab. The medic was healing a Sniper, who was behind the corner and I didn't know was there. Right when I get behind the medic, he moves to the left and the Sniper backs up, and you guessed it, he was wearing the Razorback. I backstab the Sniper, completely and utterly on accident, and get shocked. I run around frantically (because I didn't even know I stabbed a Sniper, the events happened that fast that I didn't register them at the time) in a state of shock (no pun intended) because I had absolutely no idea what was going on. It turned out that about 5-10 seconds after I backstabbed the Sniper, the round ended, and I was able to figure out what had happened. So even though the Razorback technically worked, I was still alive and well at the end. I don't see that event happening ... well, ever again really.
Also, I have yet to be covered in urine in TF2, so I guess that's a plus?

As did I. They seem to be pretty common (I've seen a bunch being handed out).

Alright people have finally figured out the system.
You can items *GASP* the more time you spend playing the game. However this also mean you can GO AFK, die at one point and then get new/old items.
I've created my own server for this but people everyone (mainly on the steam forums) have reported people going afk on their server (sometimes in spec because it also works) just to get new items when they aren't doing anything. So server admins watch out for a new influx of AFKs.

Is there supposed to be audio with the new kritzkrieg taunt? If so I heard absolutely nothing with it last night. I hope it's just a glitch that will eventually get fixed.
I like the sniper's new backstabbed animation.

Supposedly the system is bugged. Which isn't a surprise to me.

I bounced a quick mail to Valve’s very own Saxton Hale, TF2 lead-guy Robin Walker, who reckons there’s some sort of bug in the system that’s meaning people aren’t getting unlocks even after hours of play. “Not at all how it’s tuned,” apparently. Which is, I think, the first time I’ve been relieved to hear a game has a bug - it means the problem will get fixed.
“As in everything else we do, we want to iterate, so this is really the first step towards our desired implementation. We also think we have bugs in the system as well, since we’re seeing some players not finding any items after a few hours of play, which is not at all how it’s tuned. We want unlockable drops to be a pretty regular occurrence for players, with the cosmetic hats being the rare finds.”

How can some people hate new stuff so much after less than 24 hours.
Would you rather not get anything new at all and play the same old game since it was released almost 2 years ago?
Sure, I complain about stuff like airblast and the sandman when it first came out because that has a much more clearcut effect on the game. A shield for the sniper that works against spies? That affects like like 2 players at most, at any one time. Big deal.
Also, I like the new unlock system. It means I might be able to enjoy new stuff less than 3 months after it comes out (I simply don't have time to battle the achievement system).
I thought it was hilarious how Dog kept getting weapons for doing nothing, I think he got 2 great items before rounds even started. His theory (and I share it) is: the more complaining you do the less likely you get unlocks. Seemed evident last night, I didn't whine too much and I got the ambassador while playing sniper. Ironic?
