Mmmmm the axe. I have come to know the taste of it well thanks to fallout.itchy. I have since taken on my own Pennsylvillun axe quest, but only when I'm not too busy getting the CHOP.

I feel as though I'm stealing TheCarpe's thunder. His is the true "the axe." I am but an imitator.

But you are a worthy student of the axe! Granted, you do not possess THE axe, but your axe is fearsome as well. Take some credit for that, at least!

Glad to see you joined the forums, BTW.

Welcome to the forums fallout.itchy and ShadyJane! Good to see two more seriously tough new regulars joining the crew. Be sure to stop in Fridays for all-you-can-eat Alaskan snow crab on Ville IV.

I'm starting to think the axe sucks. I had to axe a soldier 4 times before he died!

I'm going to throw this out there, but i think its bottle FTW.

Well, of course. You just have AN axe. I possess THE axe. It's a world of difference. You say the axe sucks, yet I remember it tasting your blood several times yesterday ;).

WTF is this i keep getting logged out, session invalid, can't post...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
so confused!!

Anyhow

I hit the bottle for the break with 194 damage last night, this soldier I hit told me the damage.

Can the axe do that much? Honestly i think an axe should do more damage than a bottle...but it never works that way for me.

And how do you resist the urge to light everything on fire... thats a big plus for me =P I find it damn satisfying.

I think most melee weapons will kill in one critical, but here's a little more to think about: I've found that all melee weapons do more damage from behind - not just the butterfly knife. On top of that, I think (in general), the slower the melee weapon swings, the more damage it does, meaning that bottle, fist, bonesaw, and machete are going to do the most, and the axe and bat are going to do the least. The two that seem to be outside of that equation are the wrench and the shovel - the shovel seems fairly slow, but also weak, and the wrench is fast and seems pretty powerful.

Still, THE axe is greater than them all... combined.

Yes, all the melees always do more damage from behind, and I'm not sure, but I would assume a broken bottle does more damage than an intact one.

Burning your enemies is satisfying, yes. I find it more satisfying to stalk my opponent, lie in wait for my moment, jump out suddenly, and whack him to death with the axe while he panicks.

As for which melees do more damage per hit, that I don't know. The amount of skill a person has is the biggest decider of how much damage is done with it, IMO. A scout or sniper whacking at air while he runs in circles around an opponent is not nearly as deadly as a Pyro who knows when and how to use his axe.
