TV7 Class Limits

Post by belak » Sat Nov 15, 2014 3:23 am

One of the odd things I have run across on TV7 is the class limits. Currently on TV6, 2 snipers and 2 spies are allowed, while on TV7 the limits are 3 snipers and 3 spies.

It is my opinion (and hopefully the opinion of a few other people) that TV7 would be better off with a 2 sniper, 2 spy limit.

Reasons for:
* Helps even out the teams
* Encourages more useful contributions to the team gameplay

Previous reasons against (according to the old thread... 3 or so years ago):
* Class limiting can be seen as evil
* AFK people (not that much of an issue - that's what the AFK kick is for)
* Too strict (we've had it on TV6 for ages and haven't had many complaints)

More often than not a team with 3 snipers and/or spies is not balanced... and that causes a ton of issues. I don't see any reason to keep the sniper/spy limit at 3 when TV6 has successfully fun with a limit of 2 for quite some time now.

I am completely for setting the limit for Snipers/spies to 2 to match the limits on tv6. I never really understood why there was a difference as the limits work perfect on tv6. The servers I used to play at actually had a 1 sniper/spy limit and they always were full with a lot of competitive games.

We all know that we will never achieve a perfect balance between teams, but having too many support classes makes for a lot of terrible games that leads to rage quits. The team that is being roflstomped, ALWAYS has a terrible make up featuring 3 snipers along with multiple spies/scouts. There just isn't a situation where you think "gee I wish we had 3 snipers". I say this as a person whose loved sniper since Quake TF. What is worse, is that it just negates the usefulness of other classes. Sometimes I join a team, see they have no medic so I choose that. Then I look around for someone to heal, but there is just nothing you can do with so many silly support classes. On TV6, there is a lot more times where the class balance is very workable, even if the skill distribution causes some beatdowns. With TV7, that 3rd sniper/3rd spy tend to be game breaking. It is a double pain when we finally have the server fully seeded, and the dorky class layouts gets a team annihilated leading to regulars quitting.

As for arguments listed above, I see far far far more people complaining about why there are 3 snipers. In fact I hear that complaint multiple times a day. I don't recall ever hearing on tv6 anyone actually having issue with a 2 sniper/spy limit and it certainly hasn't effected its activity level. As for AFKs, the only thing that matters is that you are down a person, the class means very little unless its a medic but you have plenty of slots to switch to another med. Plus lets be honest, typically the sniper is the worst person anyway (and I don't mean that to be rude, its just how it often goes). Adopting the tv6 class limit (which I love tbh), would be great for the server, will help balancing out the fun factor of games while making more regulars happy.

I also agree. Was this a function that was part of the quickplay requirements that we no longer deal with anyway?

Spies are like ninjas, they get less powerful as there are more on one team.

Bump? It seems like there's been no one who's really opposed to this... what needs to be done to make this happen?

Being a person who spends hours and hours playing TF2 each day, god bless your soul for making the change Stevo! It is very much appreciated by all those who play around the ville!
