I like coldfront, but it's a poorly optimized map and causes a lot of issues on lower end PCs. Maybe that's why it's not as popular?

I always enjoy CTF_Well if a CTF map is a serious consideration.

The last time we were able to vote on the map list ctf_well ended up on there for 2 or 3 months and people were ready to remove dustbowl.

I would second (or third) ctf_doublecross as the best option. It was popular on TV7 for a long time and was the only ctf map for ages after turbine was removed. It is a bit of a goof off map since the noobs all turtle, half of both teams are snipers, and jumping classes rule the balconies. It's really fun until a level 3 sentry gets built on the bridge or a heavy combo camps the top spawn door. :D

Guilty as charged.

Coldfront is pretty fun, I do miss that map.
I could also run some Double-cross again.
Both sound like great options.

My thoughts:
  • Snakewater kills the server. It needs to be removed.
  • CTF well won't work. It hurt the server even with quickplay; it definitely won't work without it.
  • Coldfront could work.
  • Doublecross could work.
  • I also actually think cp_well could do all right. In the past, there were actually some successful seeds on it.
It is important to note that attack/defend and payload maps really are what keeps the server full. While I do like having 5cp maps on the server, they really do have to be very carefully selected, and we can't have too many.

snakewater is in the VC, so it might be best to keep in the rotation through the VC.

After playing again, I think one thing we should definitely look at is map time. There's been a lot of times when a payload map would go on for one extra round when we've already played through a lot of it, and everybody just leaves, since there's no way of voting to move on to the next map.

Admittedly this is going to be hard since it depends on whether there's actually a successful long round on say badwater or not, which can get pretty exhausting after even one full back-and-forth round.

So now that the Ville Cup is over, I was wondering if we could revisit changing up map rotation on TV7 to spice things up a bit!

Do you have any specific suggestions based off of your observations?

Well, I just wondering if anyone else agrees or are we satisfied with current rotation. Any variation is fine by me, maybe change a map or two. This thread got a little off subject before, pointing out why one person likes a particular map while the next person hated same map. Maybe "Management" should just make a change, revisit some maps that were pulled last time. The current rotation has grown on the majority of players, compared to when they were first added. I haven't seen server clearing much lately due to map; even granary, snakewater and badlands tend to stay full. I find myself playing on other servers for maps that I miss and I don't mind that.

I wish it were possible to track how many users we generally have on a per-map basis... anyway, I haven't seen the server clear out from maps that much, but there could still be a switch. A little change is nice...

Is it possible to just add a map or two? If the current rotation is working pretty well, I'd hate to kill it.

If there were a refresh coming, I would ask to remove snakewater and granary.
