A minor note regarding spawn camping.
I have no issues with a demoman laying down stickies at spawn to kill the enemies teleporter entrances. Just put down 3-4 and blow them up, and be on your merry one-eyed way. If someone walks out right as you detonate, it's frustrating but more of an unfortunate coincidence than anything malicious. But if you are laying down stickies to get the teleporters and specifically waiting to detonate them until someone walks out, that IS spawn camping and it's unacceptable (it's arguable more detestable than normal spawn camping, since you are trying to pretend that it was an "accident").
If you do this, please kindly refrain in the future.

Re: A minor note regarding spawn camping.
It's 2012 and people are still complaining about spawn camping...
I mean I know it's against "server rules" but it's honestly a non-issue unless you're getting steam-rolled and either way you've already lost -.-

Domer's statement about it being spawn camping is completely correct. It is an issue, and we will take action against those we catch doing it.
Do not spawn camp.
Do not spawn camp.

Remember gals and guys, we do not allow tents on our servers. If your caught trying to set it up, you'll be removed and have your map pass revoked for ever.

Re: A minor note regarding spawn camping.
I wonder if this can be addressed to some extent by map design, on new maps. I believe there is a nonstick surface that could be used around spawn doors to prevent stickies from being placed there, and there is also a no-build zone to prevent that from being an advantage to engies.
It falls under the same category of preventing sniper line of sight into the heart of the spawn room. Making it possible to spawn and exit the spawn room safely is to a large extent a map design problem.

Re: A minor note regarding spawn camping.
It's already addressed on good 5cp maps, spawn camping on badlands/granary/snakewater and others is never an issue, the problem is that everyone insists on playing maps like dustbowl or frontier or goldrush, where spawn camping is almost unavoidable without making up ridiculous server rules and being all strict about it.Gearloose wrote:I wonder if this can be addressed to some extent by map design, on new maps. I've been saying this since the beginning, spawn camping isn't the issue, bad map design is, to solve it you just stop playing the bad maps

I wouldn't put it that way. I love some of those maps, especially Dustbowl. If any action is to be taken beyond what we already do, I'd say getting the maps fixed would be the way to go.Fano wrote:I've been saying this since the beginning, spawn camping isn't the issue, bad map design is, to solve it you just stop playing the bad maps

That goes into map issues though, which is something else entirely. Although I would like to see Snakewater on rotation.

I would support this one.Gizanked wrote:Fano wrote:without making up ridiculous server rules

Also yeah, snakewater is a great map, sadly it's not official yet, but I'm sure it'll get thrown in sometime this year.

Today's NerfNow seems somewhat appropriate here. (Warning naughty word)

Don't tempt me like this. I WILL take you up on it. Ask Inner.Gizanked wrote:all violators must sing their favorite adele song for the server.

Re: A minor note regarding spawn camping.
First of all.....I'm pretty sure it's still 2007, so there goes THAT argument.
Point B: Rule=Rule. If you don't like the rule, play elsewhere. Like Fano said, you can choose another map, or as has been said, another server. Another option might be to stick around for about 5-10 years, get on the council and change the rules.
I don't see how it's confusing to some that other people would be irritated when a rule is broken. Anarchism is ok in some places, but not in video games based on imaginary people who defy real-world physics and morality in an effort to obtain an arbitrary and fleeting goal....played out by real people.
I was on Dustbowl on the night in question and was blowded-up by said stickies. It wasn't so much that I died, but it was more of a "come-on, reaaaally?"
This is something that will always be an issue I surmise.
