Sniper Unlock Ideas
I personally don't play Sniper, but after an idea came to me I worked up another two.
Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle (Primary)
The semi-automatic sniper rifle would have a magazine compared to the current one that has 25 bullets. With the magazine added on you would have to reload, which would be longer than how the current sniper rifle empties its shell after firing.
I'm not sure how big the magazine would be, but I would say it would have three or five bullets in it. The semi-automatic sniper rifle also has no charge to it, and overall does 25% less damage compared to the current one. (Which keeps people from running around no-scoping players, and also it adds balance)
So you either go for one shot one kill, or multiple shots good for killing weak classes/wounded players.
This definitely has a lot of variables to it like: how big is the magazine, how long is the reload time, and how much less damage does it do? I really don't know, but you just sort of have to see through the holes.
Boomerang (Secondary)
The boomerang is thrown like the Sandman baseball, but the boomerang flies in an elliptical path. If the boomerang hits an enemy then they get a speed reduction for around three seconds, and it does ten damage on contact. Another key feature to the boomerang is that it can pick up health/ammo from a range. It can not pick up more than one object at a time.
If there is enough room the boomerang will come back to the thrower, or if it hits a wall/enemy it will just flop downward. It can be picked up like the Sandman baseball, and will also "respawn" like the Sandman baseball of course.
Bowie Knife (Melee)
First let me say that it doesn't have to be a bowie knife, but from past melee weapon upgrades it was always the same sort of weapon, (Fists=Boxing Gloves | Axe=Axe | Bat=Bat) thus a bowie knife was the only upgrade weapon from a kukri I could think of.
By getting a kill with the bowie knife it increases the rate of your charge, or if you're using the semi-automatic sniper rifle it increases the rate you reload your magazine. The downside is it does less damage making it hard to get the effect.
The only variable is that I don't know if it should be for the next five/ten seconds, or for the next two zooms/reloads.
-After some requests I changed it from a machete to a bowie knife.
-After some requests the boomerang can now pick up health/ammo. I don't know how Valve would add this into the game.
-After Rigges' long and insightful post about clips and magazine I changed the "clip" to magazine.
Thank you for your time.

Re: Sniper Unlock Ideas
Melee should be the bowie knife from Crocodile Dundee!
"Thats not a knife....That's a knife!"
He pulls it out after a group of thugs tries to mug him with a switchblade (Spy!).

Re: Sniper Unlock Ideas
Boomerang should be able to pick up health/ammo on it's journey so i never have to leave my sniper spot for ammo =)

...another quality post from Fox!
I like your ideas, and thanks for taking the time to describe them.
Here's an idea:
What if the sniper could use his dot to "Paint" a target like the military does...
It would work with sniper/soldier only and would create a new interclass weave that would give both classes more depth. Can you imagine a kritz'ed soldier with sniper/laser guided rockets!
Oh, and I gotta agree that the Croc Dundee reference with the Bowie knife fits the Sniper's theme perfectly.

Umm just to correct some thing
Magazine / Clip
There is a Difference
Magazines and Clips are not the Same Thing
Nor are they Interchangeable for what they are.

I think the sniper should get a 5 shot or 8 shot clip weapon, semi auto with iron sights or a low power scope.
Definitely a knife! I big bowie knife!
and.... hmmmm the boomerang to replace the smg isnt bad. to like pick up everything from health to ammo. That would be pretty neat.
