I haven't played a Mario kart since the n64 so this is going to be fun. I decided on Wildwater as my bonus game because it put me on the spot and I went with my gut.

Re: Mario kart 8
I hit an item box while in third place and received a blue shell. I finished that same race a quarter-lap ahead of the person in second.
It was both beautiful and terrifying. These are both things I thought impossible. My entire understanding of reality has been called into question.
If you're on the fence about getting a Wii U, this game might just be the one that makes it worth getting.

I'm quite happy with what they did with the game this time around. It's shaping up to be my favorite Mario Kart since Double Dash.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, it controls well and the visuals are fantastic. I like the new items too, the Piranha Plant has so many uses. The first time I got one it ate a Blooper about to obscure my screen.

Apparently the odds of getting better items is based on your distance from the leader rather than your position in the race.
So it is possible for the guy in second to get Starmen and Blue Shells if they're far enough behind the guy in first.
Likewise, you won't get Lightning Bolts when you're in twelfth, but everyone is neck-and-neck.

That's a brilliant way to do it, and makes a lot of sense. I do have to say I'm disappointed with this iteration of Rainbow Road, though. It's kind of bland compared to some other tracks. Bowsers Castle blew me away.Supreveio wrote:Apparently the odds of getting better items is based on your distance from the leader rather than your position in the race.

The sky level is my favorite course. Also that Gusty Garden Galaxy remix, YES.

Re: Mario kart 8
I tried playing MK8 in gamepad-only mode for the first time yesterday. It looks quite nice even on the small screen, although you do have to tap the icon to show what's on the TV screen when the first race starts.
I discovered while doing this that you can rotate the trophy at the end of a GP using the touch screen, which is nifty. Can anyone use that to read the tiny engravings on the trophies that have them?

So I've been trying to 3 star the cups on 100cc to learn the tracks. The most frustrating thing has to been when you get 3 first place in a row and then 2 1/2 laps into the final race you get absolutely decimated and finish 5th or something.

There has been far too little acknowledgement of the fact that Wario's horn is a fart.

Re: Mario kart 8
Wario is my favorite racer this time around, mostly because of his stats, but I'd be lying if I said that his horn had no influence on my preference.TheCarpe wrote:There has been far too little acknowledgement of the fact that Wario's horn is a fart.

I tend to race with toad. That is an old habit from the last Mario kart I owned on n64.
Good news is I can start 150cc now.
