Evolve

Post by Will T. » Fri Feb 14, 2014 4:10 pm

One of my instructors will not stop talking about this game (as in, he has derailed three lectures this week solely to rave about it for 20+ minutes at a time :P), and it's probably something Villuns will be interested in, so I guess it might be worth sharing here.

Evolve is a co-op FPS from Turtle Rock Studios, who apparently also made Left 4 Dead (the Steam store page says it was Valve, but okay then ... or is Turtle Rock just formed up of people from Valve who made L4D?). Like L4D, it puts four players together for a co-op game. Unlike L4D, they are all playing against a fifth player. Who is basically L4D's Tank on tons and tons of steroids.

Here's the trailer:

There's a lot to it, which this video explains better than I was going to try to with a wall of text:

It looks much more strategic than L4D. I never cared much for either of those games, but this one potentially has my attention.

Thoughts?

Yup, looks pretty good. Hope there is enough variety to give it longevity, though

:D After watching that that gameplay video I think it looks fun. The evolve part of it reminds me of Natural Selection. I also like the part where the monster can hide, eat and gain level etc. So its not just find the hunters and smash.

Turtle Rock was the development studio for L4D, I'm pretty sure Valve was the publisher (albeit a pretty involved one).

This looks like it could be a great deal of fun. If they come out with a mod to have multiple player monsters I think that'd be even cooler.

This game looks super badass, I can honestly see it being an awesome game for the Ville to host servers for, particularly with all the L4D2 players we have.

Some discussion that includes l4d.

The developers behind Left 4 Dead and the upcoming Evolve talk about their time with Valve, the fall of THQ from the inside, and why they're so excited to release their next game.

I just watched a joystiq video on it, looked like it has a lot of killing floor influences.
