Recently greenlit, and updated today, 7 Days to Die would seem to be part DayZ, part Minecraft, and Part... I dunno... Elder Scrolls? Fall-Out? Something like that.

It's expensive for an early-access Alpha, and their forums suggest it is reasonably limited/buggy at present, but I do like the look of it. At any rate, I'm curious if anybody here has played it thusfar, or has been following it and cares to comment? The idea, if they pull it off, has the makings of awesome. A big if, for sure, but I'm willing to root for it.

When the last zombie lies dead!
Honestly though, I think part of the ongoing appeal of them is just that they make good enemies for games and films:
- You can kill them without any twinge of conscience
- You can insert them in a modern environment without having to claim additional fictions like magic, aliens, or dimensional portals
- They are, as a concept, sufficiently menacing to support a plot
- They make great cannon fodder, which helps make a hero/ine look the part
- Enough different versions of them are understood as archtypes, that the word "zombie" really can encompass many desirable types of enemy
Basically, yes they're trendy, but they're also just really convenient.

They're also an easy fallback enemy. Using zombies instead of (for example) Nazis lets you market your game to a wider community without needing to make changes.Alizée Fan wrote:When the last zombie lies dead!
