Starbound

Post by The Domer » Wed Dec 04, 2013 4:44 pm

Any Villuns interested in going in on a 4-pack of this game? It's still in the first beta, but I saw it was added to early access on steam. Personally, I probably won't play until the final game is released, but I figured I send out the feelers to see who is interested.

I'm interested, but I'm not exactly in a position to pick anything up right now. I shouldn't even be buying Mann up tickets.

I'll go in on the 4pack, the game is pretty popular right now so I'm thinking about using it as my stream game next week. PM on steam and we'll get money flowing.

Another mining simulator? What makes this different from Terraria?

To be honest, there's not much different. If I recall correctly, Terraria was actually the tech demo for Starbound, though that may no longer be the case since only one member of the Terraria team is working on it now (and it's not Red). I suppose it's more a different approach to the same concept that's interesting enough to garner a massive following on the first few days.

I want a little more info on the game before I decide to buy in, luckily 2 of my youtube channels seem to exploring game so I'll see how it's different from terraria.

Then again an endless Terraria might be exactly what I was looking for anyways.

I might be interested, if there's a 4-pack out there. . .

So does anyone own this? It looks like a lot of fun in it's current state but I'm looking for some first impressions.

Also by any chance did anyone set-up a server yet?

I've had it for a while and have mixed feelings on it. Much of the game is pretty much terraria except that you can choose from different races to play as and travel to different worlds.
What killed it for me at the moment is that
1. The races are only cosmetically different.
2. To travel to the next harder sector craft an item to start a boss battle.
3. Unless you are really attached to a world there is not much reason to return so there is little reason to build much.

Being early access, I do believe that all of those facets you mentioned are being worked on. Though I think the first one is only partially true as each race does get a bonus if you equip all the racial armor sets-- I'm not exactly sure what that means but glitch get to mine faster and humans are supposed to carry more and so forth.

Setting a home world is supposed to allow you to actually populate the world with nova and the like an it seems like they want to do quite a bit with it but that still is not in the game. Rhey don't even have the last race in the game yet but I like it more than terraria so far-- so I may be a tad optimistic.

Im interested in it, since my friends have it and told me it was a blast. I really wanted to try it out when I learned that you could make music and hold concerts (im not sure how this works but im interested!)

I enjoy the game quite a bit. It has been my go to game for a little while now. So far, the races only have minimal differences but I am sure that will change. What I like the most is the fact that you can go to different planets and interact with different "villages" of npc-type groups. Some of these groups are friendly and some are not.
Also, I like digging to the center of the earth and finding caverns underground. They seem to happen fairly regularly when digging.
I will say that I didn't play Terraria though (Sorry if I missed spelled it:P)

I think I'll buy starbound after the "final character wipe" which apparently is happening soon because I hate saves of mine getting deleted.
