All-Star Mode is now available from the start, but will be incomplete until all the characters are unlocked (represented by a padlock icon on the splash image)
Image

SSB4's All-Star goes further than Brawl's did, and now you fight the characters based on when the game they debuted in was released rather than their whole series. (The Miiverse post says "pretty much" chronological order, meaning it probably uses the Japanese release dates)
Image

(Defeated characters are read bottom-to-top, left-to-right. Upcoming characters are top-to-bottom, left-to-right)

Pac-Man -> Mario + Donkey Kong -> Luigi -> Little Mac -> Peach + Bowser -> Link + Zelda -> Samus -> Pit + Palutena -> Mega Man -> Marth -> Yoshi -> Captain Falcon -> Sonic -> Kirby + King Dedede -> Fox -> Meta Knight

Nerd in me told me to see where each currently-revealed fighter would fall in All-Star Mode:

Each character has eight costumes in this game, compared to the four-to-six of previous games.

Funny how I can name all but two of those color schemes for Samus: (from top left to bottom right) Dark Suit color scheme, don't know, Fusion Suit color scheme, Varia Suit, Dark Samus' colors, Light Suit color scheme, don't know, Gravity Suit. I don't think the green and pink ones actually exist in the series.

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.

Apparently pink is the Super Metroid Gravity Suit (Purple is Metroid Prime).

But green is entirely unique to Smash Bros.

If you needed any more proof that SSB4 was even more pointed towards multiplayer this time around, here's the 3DS version's main menu:

Selecting "Games & More" gets you this screen:

And then "Solo":

One week until the Japanese 3DS release, by the way.

On September 12th, Nintendo's going to be hosting an eight-hour livestream on Twitch to promote the 3DS version (presumably to coincide with the Japanese release being on the same day), plus some other upcoming games.

Just a heads up: A demo for the game is to be released in North America and Europe on September 19th on the eShop. In Japan, this has already happened.

If the demos are identical, this is how they work:
- The demo can be launched 30 times before the trial period is over
- The only available mode of play is normal Smash
- Only five characters are available for play: Mario, Link, Pikachu, Villager, and Mega Man
- Only one stage is available for play: Battlefield. However, you may also choose its Omega form (which also disables items)
- Aside from Smash, the only available option is to read the Tips section, which give hints about stages, Assist Trophies, Poké Ball Pokémon, and Smash Run enemies
- While all other stages are barred from play, you can still see them on the selection screen. This has revealed the existence of a PictoChat 2 stage

First off, an official reveal: Olimar has Alph from Pikmin 3 as an alternate costume. This includes changing the character name from "Pikmin & Olimar" to "Pikmin & Alph", along with announcer voiceovers.

Second off, some very lucky individuals have gotten ahold of the game early. Spoilers abound!
VIEW CONTENT:
- Ness, Jigglypuff, Wario, Mr. Game & Watch, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario, Falco, and ROB return
- Dark Pit, Duck Hunt, and Bowser Jr. are newcomers for real
- Bowser Jr.'s alternate costumes are the other seven Koopalings (Larry, Lemmy, Iggy, Wendy, Ludwig, Roy, Morton)
- Dr. Mario's Final Smash is the Mario Finale, but with two Mega Vitamins instead of fire.
- Mother 1's Magicant is the Mother series stage in the 3DS version. Scenes from Mother 1 and EarthBound appear in rifts in the background. A Flying Man is a stage feature that acts like an Assist Trophy. A giant Mobile Sprout, the Sky Runner, and Dungeon Man appear as temporary platforms.
- Master Hand and Crazy Hand have new attacks. Addtionally, dealing enough damage to them on higher difficulties causes them to merge into a shadow creature (reminds me of the Shaydas enemies from Subspace Emissary) called Master Core. While Master Core lives, a swarm of shadow bugs obscures its Stamina meter. When it is defeated (read: reduced to 0 HP), it turns into a harmless quasi-Smash Ball with a damage percentage. You have to beat it up until you can KO it the old-fashioned way.
- Mushroomy Kingdom, Yoshi's Island, WarioWare Inc., Distant Planet, and Flat Zone 2 return as stages from Brawl
- Corneria returns from Melee
- The GameBoy Stage is actually a Kirby's Dream Land stage, with the original green-and-gray GB pixel graphics.
- When using Robin's power, Kirby also has a limited amount of usage of the attack. When the tome is used up, Kirby automatically drops the power

- Continuing on from the Master Core thing: Master Core has five forms. Master Core starts at Form 1 on the highest difficulties, Form 2 on the middle difficulties, and Form 3 on the lower difficulties.
- Form 1: A massive humanoid form in the background that sets giant energy balls in the sky, then raises the stage up to them. It can also shoot exploding energy from its forehead and absorb the player into its head or arms to damage them before spitting them out.
- Form 2: A quadrupedal scorpion-like creature that can cause shadowy spikes to erupt from the ground, and can jump to the background, then lunge from it
- Form 3: A collection of five swords that slash and can shoot energy cutters out that eventually travel back towards Master Core
- Form 4: A larger, shadowy version of your character, which shrinks in size as it nears death
- Form X: A harmless Smash Ball that you beat up on until you can KO it past the blast lines. If a strike doesn't KO it, the sphere will travel back to the center of the stage for more beatings.

Where is all this information coming from? A confirmation source would be nice, as this is the internet after all.

Alternatively, since that link stopped streaming and it doesn't have a recording. (It was hosting another stream, but that doesn't have a recording either.)

Try this.

The release date for the Wii U version may have been leaked.

A preorder slip pegs the date as November 21st. Those of you into Pokémon may recognize that date as the release date for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. We may have a problem.

On another note, I added the secret characters and 3DS stages to the starter post spoilers. They aren't on the official site yet, so they're not links. But they're there.
