Out of all the things announced for these games today, I think one of my favorites is the new "Pokemon-Amie" feature. The ability to walk and interact with your 'mons in HeartGold/SoulSilver was a small thing, but it made all the difference to me in how immersive those games felt as compared to other entries. It made the 'mons seem a little bit more like living, breathing creatures rather than just inventory items that happened to be able to fight each other. It was something sorely missed when I got around to playing White, and it made that game feel extremely dull by comparison to HG/SS. IMO, any means of direct interaction with your 'mons outside of battle is a good thing to have.

As minor as that feature is, it has largely rekindled my waning interest in these games. Can't wait for October!

More New 'Mons in the new CoroCoro and other E3 trailers.

From E3:
Talonflame (Fire/Flying) - Evolves from Fletchling. Learns Brave Bird.
Clauncher (Water) - A blue lobster. Learns Crabhammer.
Skrelp (Water/Poison) - A seahorse-looking thing. Learns Sludge Bomb.

In CoroCoro:
Shishiko (Fire/Normal) - A lion cub that learns a new attack called "Battle Cry" that lowers the target's attack.
Furabebe (Fairy) - A flower-dwelling pixie-looking thing that strangely isn't Grass-type.
Kofurai/Kofukimushi (Bug) - Pre-evolved forms of Vivillon. The middle stage evo is allegedly named "Spewpa"

One gym in the region is lead by a photographer named Viola, and she uses Bug-type Pokémon.

There are also two new forms of battle: Horde and Sky.
Sky battles are only available to Flying-type Pokémon and those with the Levitate ability.
Horde battles pit up to five other Pokémon against one from your team.

The new fairy type seems to be built for trolling.

I think they are called that because of Fairytales.

I would've preferred it to be named Magic instead but it's a nerf to dragons and they badly needed a nerf.

One new monster this week, revealed at Japan Expo in France.

"Hitotsuki" (Steel/Ghost) - A floating sword and scabbard with an eye on its hilt that unsheathes itself during battle. Its French name is "Monorpale", but no English name yet.

Remember back in elementary school, when you and your friends would play imaginary Pokémon at recess?

And there was always that one jerkass kid who said he wanted to be "Mega Charizard"?

... Well, Mega-Pokémon now exist. Unfortunately. Through a special "evolution" called "Mega-Evolution".

Those that have mega-evolutions include the following:
- Blaziken (Fire/Fighting); Ability: Speed Boost
- Lucario (Fighting/Steel); Ability: Adaptability
- Mewtwo (Psychic); Ability: Insomnia
- Absol (Dark); Ability: Magic Bounce
- Mawile (Steel/Fairy); Ability: Huge Power (Normal Mawile is also Steel/Fairy now)
- Ampharos (Electric/Dragon); Ability: Mold Breaker

Three regular Pokémon were also revealed:
- "Meekuru" (Grass) - Evolves into Gogoat
- "Dedenne" (Electric/Fairy) - The obligatory Pikachu clone of this generation. Has the abilities Pickup or "Cheek Pouches"
- "Horubii" (Normal) - A rabbit. Has the abilities Pickup or "Cheek Pouches" as well.

In addition, a special Torchic will be given out as an event at the games' release, with a special item that allows it to evolve into Mega-Blaziken.

It looks like the mega pokemon may just have dream world abilities from gen 5 instead of their standard ones.

Doesn't seem that way since of the six we know now, only Blaziken has its Dream World ability in Mega form.

For the record, the others' Dream World/Hidden Abilities are these:
Lucario = Justified
Ampharos = Plus
Mewtwo = Unnerve
Absol = Justified
Mawile = Sheer Force

Plus, Ampharos becomes a Dragon-type for some reason in its Mega form.

While we don't know anything else aside from that the Mega forms are only available in battle through some unknown process, I believe that this is GameFreak's attempt at making some Pokémon more viable in battle. While I'm all for expanding the variety of useful Pokémon, I don't like their aesthetics.

I mean look at them

Aside from Mewtwo, all the Mega Pokémon are just the original with more hair and stuff dangling off them.

This is interesting at least. I wonder if there are variations of abilities within the Mega evolutions.

Aesthetically, they are boring. I would of liked more interesting changes.

English stuff

Pokémon:
- Dedenne keeps its Japanese name
- Horubii --> Bunnelby
- Meekuru --> Skiddo

Abilities:
- Cheek Pouch's effect was revealed. When the bearer consumes a berry, in addition to its usual effect, it also heals some HP
- Skiddo has the ability Sap Sipper

Moves:
- Bunnelby learns Dig
- Dedenne learns a new move called Nuzzle, an Electric-type move that may paralyze the target (or always does. The wording is vague)

Other Stuff:
- Super Training. Basically, it allows you to more easily increase your Pokémon's EVs and stuff.
- Effort Values are now displayed with an item in-game (The Effort-O-Meter)

This will be convenient to double check values after you're done training something up. You know, if anyone else is in to that kind of thing.

Super useful for pokemon you want to tweak later. You won't have to COMPLETELY re-train them, just the EVs that aren't in line with the build.

Something that popped up a few days ago:

Mega Kangaskhan. It looks exactly the same as normal Kangakhan, but the baby is out of the mother's pouch. It also gets an ability called "Parental Bonding" that allows it to attack twice in a turn.

In addition, it was revealed that Mega-Evolution Pokémon get stat boosts. In particular, Mega Absol gains increased Attack and Speed; Mega Mawile gets increased Defense and Special Defense (as well as Attack thanks to Huge Power); Mega Mewtwo has increased Special Attack (like it needed it); Mega Lucario and Mega Blaziken have increased Attack.

And something a Let's Player I watch pointed out:
Mega Absol has Magic Bounce. That means you can't use Status moves on it. Absol learns Sucker Punch. In fact, Absol's Sucker Punch is one of the strongest increased-priority moves in the game (possibly THE strongest). Mega Absol is even stronger than normal Absol.

I'll let you do the math.
