The War Z

Has anyone played this?

I was looking at it but it seems like the devs might be super untrustworthy, and that the game may be a bit of a sham.

There's a lot of internet rage directed at this game, the problem with internet rage is you never know if it's really warranted. Still going to the official WarZ forums hosted by the devs, they get really heavy with the ban hammer when they see criticism or mentions of people complaining about hacking.

That and sites that have played the alpha have said it's very, very rough and not delivering on promises, it's supposedly in "Beta" now though.

So, before I give these guys a few bucks, has anyone played this?

All I know is that I looked at it, saw that it's essentially a F2P game you have to initially pay for, said meh, and closed the tab.

Also, this.

Sounds almost exactly like APB all over again - watch for the RTW style fold-up in a few weeks.

I've heard nothing but bad stories about this game. Likely, your best bet is to wait for DayZ standalone to come out.

edit to add a story.

I can't find the link, but I read a first-hand account of this guy who used paid hacks. At first, he did it to beat the other hackers (which, from his account were like 90% of the people on any given server). Finally, he got so sick of the game that he used his hacks to kill the devs who were playing on the server he was on. I guess they gave him a, hold your breath, ONE day suspension.

I've heard that people who ask for refunds have had their accounts permanently banned. Even if the stories are half-true, they must contain some kernel of truth. Better to stay away.

The very little bit I've heard about this game says to stay away.

I've made a really bad mistake of buying this game. It is extremely bad. While the game can be played without the pay market it is extremely bad and buggy. Feels like playing a crappy indy game or a poor mod. After about 3 hours of raging as I continued to get stuck on bridges and docks and falling through the terrain to my death I uninstalled the game.

I'm a huge redditor, I already read all this crap. As far as a refund I bought the game month or two ago. Only way to get a refund would be to beg my bank and that is always a hassle.

Try sending a message to Valve explaining you purchased it under false pretenses. They lied on their store page and have since changed it and there were a lot of features which were listed that have not been implemented. One of the guys on the team even said they wanted the page to be interpreted "a bunch of different ways" which to me translates as "we're gonna lie through our teeth and people will buy it on that fact alone".

Please don't let it go. These guys are scum and don't deserve a dime.

According to that Reddit thread, one of the Developers for the game also "worked" on Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

That should tell you everything you need to know.

Also: Apparently the mods on their forums are very unprofessional (warning: language)

Was purchased way before it came on steam.

Moot point now: http://www.polygon.com/2012/12/19/37849 ... ar-z-steam
"From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam," Valve vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi wrote in a statement to Polygon. "We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here."
When Valve is offering refunds, you know the game is bad.
