World of Tanks

Post by Cpt._Keyes » Mon Jun 04, 2012 6:21 am

Anyone else play this...ive been playing for quite some time now...I love it, it's one of the few f2p that isnt pay to win. All the tanks are matched by tier, and the "premium tanks" arent even better or superior to their same tier counterparts (quite the opposite)

If there are other players, lemme know...and those who dont play, check it out...its a good time!

I watched a few videos of the gameplay. Care to share more about the game from your perspective? Reading and watching videos only gives you so much information about the actual gameplay. :)

Sure...the best way i can describe it is deathmatch in style...with tanks...you have 5 different classes of tank, from 4 different countries and all the tanks have different play styles.

Tank Destroyers: kind of the camping sniper, very accurate, very powerful gun...but normally very slow and hardly any armor
Mediums: Very versatile tanks, used mostly for flanking assaults, adequate guns, adequate armor, adequate speeds
Heavies: your main assault tanks...used to take the brunt of the action, Lots of armor, powerful guns...slow cumbersome "shoot me" targets
Lights: Scouts and flanking, very little armor, but tend to be extremely fast...and small targets, the guns vary wildley from pea shooters of dedicated scouts...to what amount to mobile gun trucks with 75mm cannons used for very fast hit and run assault
SPG: this is your artillery, hardly any maneuverability, hardly any armor, giant artillery cannons that shoot across the map doling out massive damage, they are used to support the attack by your front line tanks

a standard battle consists of you choosing your tank, and getting put into the automatic matchmaker where you will be put into a random map with allies and enemies based on your vehicles specific tier, the objective being to attck the enemies base, defend yours...and kill the enemy tanks.

As I said it's based on your tier, you get points after battles (and based on battle performance) that you can use to upgrade your specific vehicle, or upgrade to a new vehicle altogether, each upgrade adds a weight to your vehicles matchmaker weight...so it will NOT consist of you getting loltrolled by tier 9 and 10 tanks when you are in a tier 1, which makes it excellent for learning the game.

The premium tanks arent better than normal tanks (and in fact tend to be worse than a similarly tiered tank) but they are used to help farm credits for your main tanks upgrades.

Its also very fast paced...if you die early...just drop from the game...pick another of your tanks and join a new match...

They recently just added new battle types, one is an assault map, where one side just defends, the other is just attack. And the other version is an "encounter" which is kind of a KoTH the tanks rush to capture a central point...(or kill the entire side)

It can be a little frustrating during the learning process...and during the low tiers since the tanks are slow and terrible (even though you are facing similar tanks) but once you get into the higher tiers and more variety of tanks with each person knowing their role, it can be quite fun.

My main tank I use is a french AMX 13 75 which is a light tank, but instead of a scout i use it as hit and run since it has a massive 75 mm cannon with a 6 shot auto loader magazine. This means I wait until the main tanks start engaging...then i try to shoot fast behind the enemy lines (or i poke out of cover) lay my 6 massive shots into the weak side of a tank...and dart back to reload

Along with upgrades with tanks you have the crew members, which as they level up will increase you accuracy, speeds, sight ranges, etc. Also you have additional add on's you can buy for tanks, like shell rammers to speed up reload, auto gun drives to speed aiming, cammo nets, ventilation to increase crew performance.

I will gladly answer any other questions too about it...or hit me up on steam or in the game its-self..i am (of course) tvbkeyes

Is gold ammo still in, and still only attainable by paying real money for it?

yeah but there really isnt a need for using it...it doesnt add that much of a benefit...in fact i would even say its worse in some cases...as it might have better penetration values...but it always has less damage

You only ever see it in Clan Wars

So 8.0 has been out a while, new physics...more tanks...with the new physics, you can push tanks off cliffs, fall down, jump and get airborne, powerslide ...if you are fast/light enough. 8.1 will be out soon, and they will begin introducing a british tree.

I made a video of me playing a round in my AMX50 100 Heavy Tank...this is just an example of how diverse tanks get later on in the game. This is labled as a heavy tank...but it is very squishy...It also has a 100mm auto loader gun, which has a magazine of 6 rounds...but it takes a minute or so to load the 6 rounds...so it is used for hit and run

This is one whole round...so it should give a decent feel of how the game plays

While it looks fun, it seems to be competing with MechWarrior.

Advantages as of this moment:

MWO: Giant robots
WoT: A lot closer to a finished product

Just another example of tank, shows how even in the same class of tank, you have different play styles, The first video of the French AMX heavy, you saw was a more ambush tank, This the British TOG...well...it doesn't ambush... both however are the same class, both heavy tanks.
