Re: Anyone else think this is a minecraft rip?
Oh, so you mean like how Minecraft is an Infiniminer rip off? Or how aspects of Dwarf Fortress were taken and implemented into Minecraft?
Original ideas are exceedingly few and far between these days; I hate to break it to you but Minecraft is not one of them. It's just the one you heard of first.
That out of the way, it is very likely that Re-Logic drew inspiration from Minecraft. At the same time, there is a heavy drawing from SNES Metrovania games with art that reminds me of SNES RPGs and holds them all in balance. I bought it and I plan to get more amusement out of it in the future as I have only scratched the surface of what I can do in it with the short time I have played.
In the future, please do not be so quick to dismiss new games of being rip-offs, especially Indie games. Give them a chance and they may surprise you; Indie developers that last have a habit of caring about their games.

Wow, that fortresscraft looks like a skin pack for minecraft.
So what did minecraft do right that infiniminer didn't do to get the popular it needed to excel in the indie world? And dwarf fortress actually has a bit of a difference right?

Infiniminer was along the competitive lines of "go down, mine valuable ores, bring them back to the surface to get points for your team" but what eventually happened was that people were having much more fun building stuff than competing for points. Notch started working on Minecraft after Infiniminer was discontinued (also, some other unsavory things happened to the Infiniminer source code during this time), and the rest is history.BigBiker05 wrote: So what did minecraft do right that infiniminer didn't do to get the popular it needed to excel in the indie world? As for Dorf Fortress, it is a very different game. I don't recall all the ideas that Notch borrowed from it; I can remember Biomes off the top of my head.

And deep inside minecraft there is a point system! Thats funy! Now then could we link this all to that super old video game where you dug side scroll tunnels for points and had to bring them back to the surface?Buzzy Beetle wrote:Infiniminer was along the competitive lines of "go down, mine valuable ores, bring them back to the surface to get points for your team" but what eventually happened was that people were having much more fun building stuff than competing for points. Re: Anyone else think this is a minecraft rip?
I'm finding myself keep having to post this in other forums and community sites:
Minecraft is a rip of Infiniminer when it got discontinued. Infiniminer since then has been recontinued:

Terraria is a rip of OpenClonks when it got discontinued. Openclonks since then has been recontinued:

I guess so.....
Before minecraft, I thought of pickaxes and those types of tools from RuneScape...
I played that a long long long time ago...

After what I'm hearing, terraria is probably closer to runescape than minecraft. The whole loot and mobs dropping loot thing makes it an RPG while minecraft is just a sandbox.
