Terraria
http://store.steampowered.com/app/105600/
So, I picked this game up yesterday and I've been enjoying it. On the surface it looks like 2D Minecraft. The building aspects borrow from that style, but the game focuses more on exploration and adventure. There's a lot of useful items/weapons that can be crafted, but some can only be found by exploring. As you get better equipment there's stronger monsters and areas to explore. There's also multiplayer in this game which I'd like to try sometime. Anyone else picking this up or thinking about it?

Re: Terraria
I bought the four pack and dispersed it amongst my various Steam accounts that I let friends use. It's a very addicting game, one of my friends stayed up all night and played it for 9 hours straight I got about 2-3 hours in before my friend just told me to read the wiki so I'm ready to go questing.
And Abiscuit, the game MUST be played in multiplayer, it's beyond amazing with more than one person. The difference to me was huge. Unfortunately there's some issues with connecting to servers so we've had to use Hamachi to get the connection to go through.

Re: Terraria
I have interest in this game as the exploring part of Minecraft holds more sway over me than the building part. Looking for someone in the process of getting a group for a 4 pack or looking for people who would like in on one.
Never mind. As you were, citizens.

Re: Terraria
This game seems pretty good. From what I've seen it looks like Minecraft crossed with Zelda 2, and that sounds like a good combo to me.
peahats made this because he is awesome.

Re: Terraria
I just got murdered by one of these...
Apparently I found The Underworld and didn't realize it until THAT thing started killing me. I was in a tight space too so I couldn't really fight it... Fire Imps were attacking me too which didn't help. I'm thinking of going down there again soon. I have mostly Silver/Gold equipment at this point. Either that or I'm going to look around in the corrupted areas.

Re: Terraria
Those Bone Serpents are seriously a force to be reckoned with. Unless you're in a large area to fight it or you are extremely well equipped (Demonite or Meteorite tier items) you stand no chance. I even had a Gold Broadsword and could hardly damage the thing.

Re: Terraria
Here's a few hints/tips for the new players here:
- Keep in mind that this is NOT Minecraft. Some things work similarly in crafting but that's about it. Enemies spawn in broad daylight and stronger ones spawn at night. The type of enemies that spawn depend on the area you are in.
- First order of business is to make a house. The stock gear is not very good against the nighttime enemies so you're going to need somewhere to hide.
A few crafting recipes that are useful:
Workbench: 10 Wood
Torch (3): Slime Gel + Wood
Hammer: 8 Wood
Furnace: 20 Stone + 4 Wood + 3 Torches
Anvil: 10 Iron Bars
Wood Wall (4): 1 Wood
Some items require you to be standing near a Workbench, Furnace, etc. in order to craft. As long as you have the required materials, it will show up in your crafting options
- Wood Walls and other types of walls like this are placed in the background. Walls prevent enemies from spawning, so it is essential that you line your house from top to bottom with it.
- Hammers are used for destroying items in the background, such as a Furnace or Wall. They aren't very useful in combat.
- Furnaces smelt ore (Copper, Iron, Silver, etc.) into bars of that type. The amount of ore needed to create a bar depends on the type.
- Anvil is your crafting station for crafting better weapons and tools. Iron is required to make this, so you will have to explore some to get the materials.
Once you get an Anvil your options open up significantly for gear. There's a hell of a lot more in this game once you get situated and begin exploring.
There's also a wiki: http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Terraria_Wiki Keep in mind that the wiki is still new and there's plenty of things that have unknown uses, but most of the basic stuff is accurate.

Re: Terraria
I was just walking along the corruption when it became nighttime then all of a sudden these things started spawning like crazy. At this point they're not much of a threat, but in large numbers...
