SC2 Tourney

Post by ShadyJane » Tue Aug 03, 2010 9:57 am

I will try to keep this as simple as possible.

I am going to organize a SC2 tournament by the end of this month for villuns (and their friends). Tentatively speaking I’d like to schedule it for sometime between the 18th and the 25th. It is probably not going to be huge, but I’m not really decided on the format as of now. That really depends on how many people would like to participate.

My thinking was to do a FFA event…assuming we have enough people. I’d consider doing it any which way really. 1v1. 2v2. 4v4. Round Robin. Double elimination. Whatever.

I know there are players that are definitely better than others (as with all video games) which is why my first instinct was to lean towards a FFA. Crazy stuff can happen there. The best player in the game might find themselves fighting two enemies at once. Although the same could be said for the worst player.

What do you guys think? I am open to suggestions.

I'd probably be down. I like the FFA idea, would be pretty crazy.

I remember the last time we played FFA during the beta.. No one told me they were just going to mess around so I went serious business and attacked someone.. In turn, everyone else attacked me lol

FFAs in War3 were so much fun.

Me: Blue just asked me to help kill pink
Blue: wtf? I did not!
Me: Yeah you did, you told me Pink was teching to Chims and we should kill him before he gets too strong
Red: Pink is teching to Chims? We should kill him, then kill blue for teaming.
Me: Agreed.
Blue: Wtf guys...

I vote FFA.

OK cool. I will stick with the FFA format. Right now we have 5 (including Etchii who hasn’t posted here but I know him IRL). We will need at least 9 for this to work.

As for a scoring system I was thinking of handling it one of two ways:

1.) Have a Round Robin for 3 rounds with your finishing place in each FFA determining the score…as in the first to get knocked out gets the least amount of points that round. Person with the most points after 3 rounds wins.

2.) Have two rounds. Everyone who wins their FFA are pitted against each other in the second round.

The first option leads to a longer session but with a larger variety of opponents. The second is streamlined and will take significantly less time (in theory…technically either setup could take hours). I wouldn’t even mind being a spectator for these games.

My only rule is that no one can choose the color green for their team. I don’t care if it is your favorite color…I think it provides an unfair advantage to that single player and I’m just going to go ahead and “ban” a team color. That’s right Agro, no more sneaky snipers standing out in the open because both of our teams appear green on my minimap!

Next we have to determine which days of the week (or weekend) work best for everyone. We can drag it out over a couple of nights if that is more convenient to anyone who would like to participate.

I'm always green, even in league games! I use the thingie that makes me always green, my ally yellow, and the enemies red. Better dead than red!

I'd probably be down for it as well depending on what night it ends up being.

Ready ta Rawl Out!

So starting this weekend I have this little thing called Muskifest in my area. Basically there are a ton of bands, food, and you can booze it up in the street. It lasts all week. So this little event will happen afterwards.

Dark, I had to lookup what GArena is and from the looks of things, it does not yet support SC2…unless I am looking at it totally wrong. Are you on servers other than the US ones? Why not just use bnet with us?

Is there a day of the week that inherently works better for everyone? How about this: for the time being let’s plan to hold this on the evening of Wednesday the 18th. We can push it out if it does not work for anyone. What time zones are people in? I’m EST so an hour ahead of VilleTime. Would 7pm VST (Central) work? Not sure if we got any west-coasters on the roster yet.

Don’t forget to tell your friends if you think they might be interested. Oh and the prize, um, well…I guess I can dish out some forum points. Maybe we can get an admin to make a little Daily Award or something “FFA Champ”…I dunno. Just food for thought.
